The Henry Kiker Cemetery
Submitted

The cemetery is located
in Union County, North Carolina about 1 mile from the intersection of Olive
Branch Road and Fountain Hill Church Road, about 3.5 miles north of Marshville.
The cemetery is located approx. 1000 feet north of Fountain Hill Church Road in
the middle of a large cotton field. All visible traces of the cemetery are
destroyed except a 25 foot row of hemp plants (not marijuana) that were planted
on the west side of the cemetery. The plants are rooted so deep that plowing
and herbicides have not killed them.
Henry L. Kiker
married Roena Poole Kiker and was
the son of Edmund Karriker/Kiker and
Elizabeth Traywick/Thomas/Kiker. Henry,
his wife Roena and two of their
daughters died in 1909 and were buried on the homeplace. About 15 years ago,
the cemetery was destroyed. With the
help of my father and a family photograph of Henry, Roena and children,
I have identified six of the seven graves. My father's mother was Julie Mae Kiker, a daughter of Henry and Roena. Thanks to
several people involved with the Carriker/Karriker/Kiker
family, I was able to trace the family to Philip Karriker and his father George
Karcher/Karriker/Carriker etc...
The Henry L. Kiker cemetery contains these graves:
