Monroe High School Football Team from 1919. Names are hard to read, but the best I can decipher, they are:
Back row: Phi---, Helms, Taylor, Presson, Fairley
Middle row: Lackey, Russell, ___, ___, ___, Coble
Front row: Plyler, ___, ___, ___, Beasley
Per David Rudge: The names written on the players were introduced by my grandfather, William Jerome Rudge Jr. (1902-1972). He graduated from the public school in Monroe, but I don't think he played football and I don't recognize him among those photographed.
He had several cousins surnamed Coble, and I suspect the one so indicated is one of them, probably John Bunyan Coble (b. 1901), who graduated with my grandfather in 1920.
