Site
of Union Church organized in 1832 and in 1852 was renamed Bethlehem. It was
the beginning of what is now Bethlehem Presbyterian
Church on Hwy 601 North in Fairview NC. Many of the church records
were lost when Elder John Long tried to cross Duck Creek in his buggy and was
swept away by high waters. Elder Rex Hovey shared
this information with me during my visit to the cemetery in September 2007. The cemetery is
surrounded by a rock wall and is very well maintained. I am told this is the oldest cemetery in Union
County with the earliest burial being Lydia Long in 1810. |
