John Tate Jr. born 15, November 1789 in Pa., moved across the mountains with his family, from Pennsylvania to Tennessee. Was aged 5 when his Father remarried, ca. 1810. John V. Tate Jr. married Sarah Maricle, dau of George Maricle. 13 children born in Smith County. He m/2 around 1836 to Melinda J. Caskey b. 1810 in Ky. They have 12 more children. |

After their father's death, John V. and his half brothers, William, James and Charles Tate began selling their land in Tn. And prepare to bring their families to Illinois. |

V. Tate receives two land grants in Southern Illinois and
settles along the Hamilton - Saline County line near
Cornerville, north of Galatia, Illinois. |

John V. Tate, Melinda & their children appear on the Saline County Census. James Tate settles in White County, William D. in Hamilton County, & Charles in Franklin County, Illinois. |

John Ventile Tate dies at his home near Cornerville, October 5th and is buried Good Hope Cemetery, located on the Hamilton County portion of his land holdings. |
