Documenting our Schwenningen Ancestors

About the Schwenningen GEDCOM

The initial purpose of the Schwenningen GEDCOM was to document all JAUCHs of Schwenningen, Wurtemberg, Germany, including those who emigrated, and to connect researchers working on shared lines. However, so many different surnames are now included, that it's really becoming a SCHWENNINGEN GEDCOM.

The table below describes what records I have reviewed and incorporated into the Schwenningen GEDCOM ("Completed") and what records I still have to review and incorporate ("Yet to be transcribed"). The database also includes contributions from other researchers. See below for more information, including how you can contribute your information if you are descended of a Schwenningen ancestor.

This effort has resulted in MANY people here in the U.S. finding the source of their Schwenningen-area ancestry. It has put distant and not-so-distant cousins in touch with each other all over the world. This effort is a 100% volunteer effort of mine. See also:

  • Rottweil-Tuttlingen Web Page includes more information about the region in which Schwenningen is based, including links to other researchers and towns.
  • Jauch Home Page
More about my line of JAUCHs as well as information about others researching JAUCH and related lines, and so much more!
NOTE: The entire GEDCOM is not downloadable, but if you're connected to someone in this GEDCOM, please contact me (you'll need to edit that email address) for more information.

Sources of Data for the Schwenningen GEDCOM

The initial source of data for this GEDCOM was the International Genealogical Index at www.familysearch.org. I have subsequently added in additional sources (see below), and the table below details what I have researched/transcribed from the Schwenningen Kirchenbuch. My goal is to confirm all third-party data with the actual (microfilmed) church records. Where I have encountered inconsistencies, I have noted them in the NOTES field.

While it is my intent to make sure ALL facts are sourced, I have not yet added all source information to each and every fact. If a DATE does not have a reference, check the source for the person's NAME. The source data may be there. If a NAME does not have source information, chances are I got it from the IGI, which was the initial source "data" for this database. If in doubt about something, please email me (you'll have to edit that email address for it to work).

Share Your Data

This all-volunteer effort is slowly but surely turning into something approaching a town genealogy. If you would like to contribute to this effort, and include your Schwenningen-related research (of ancestors as well as direct-line descendants), please send me sourced information (of direct descendants only). Requirements for adding your information to this database include:

  1. Somewhere in your line you have a Schwenningen ancestor that you (or I) can trace back to Schwenningen.
  2. The data you send me is sufficiently sourced / referenced. Non- or inadequately- sourced data will not be included.
  3. You will be credited as the source for anything you contribute.
  4. Submitters must allow their name and email address (or alternative but valid contact information) to be included as source of the information; this will be included in the online database; email addresses will be modified to discourage spammers.
  5. While you may contribute information about the living, such information will NOT be included in the online version.

Alternatively, if you do not wish to add your genealogical research to this database, you might consider adding your contact information (or web site) to the record of your emigrating ancestor that is found in this database. What this would look like is something like this in the notes for that person:

Jillaine Smith (jillainedc_AT_yahoo.com) is a descendant/researcher of this line. Please contact her for further information.
or
Jillaine Smith (jillainedc_AT_yahoo.com) is researching this line. See her web site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jillaine/

To add this or any other information to the SCHWENNINGEN database, please contact me. (You must modify that email address in order for it to work.)
