Married in 1858 to Mary Lavina Bryant in Tennessee. Mary Lavina Bryant born 12-7-1841 Newport Cocke Co. TN. died 12-2-1919 McKinney Collin County Texas and is buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
In the 1860 Census, dated 10 August 1860, Felix Lewis was listed as age 23, Lavina 24, Anderson (Andrew) age one. A Nancy Hays, 45 was living with them. Felix was listed as a farmer with real property valued at $500. and personal property valued at $150.
Felix Grundy Lewis enlisted in the Confederate Army on 22 Novemeber 1861, Knoxville, Tennessee, to James W. Gillespie, for 12 months. He served in the Fifth Tennessee Cavalry (McKinzie's), Company F. On 1 March 1862, he was appointed 2nd Sgt. Later he served as a scout. There are stories that he and his scouts went back to Cocke County, and hunted any man down that was not serving in either the Confederate or Union forces. He earned the nickname "Temper Lewis". His group was called the Lewis Scouts or Rebel Scouts. After the war, he did not return to Cocke County as there were several death threats against him. He deeded his land to his father, who sold it for him, and they moved to Texas in 1867. (information from Patti Krugger).
Felix and Family settled in the Walnut Grove community, about seven miles west of McKinney. They were members of the Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church.
In the 1870 census for Collin County, Felix Grundy Lewis was listed as age 32, farm laborer, with property worth $600. Lavina was listed as age 28, and Anne 4 and Edwin 2. They were living next to Lavina's parents, Aaron and Elizabeth Bryant.
