The Cavenaugh Family of Eastern North Carolina, 1790-1930: Descendants
The Cavenaugh Family of Eastern North Carolina, 1790-1930
My research has thus far been focused on recording the descendants of Silvester Cavenaugh down to April of 1930, so I do not include births or marriages after that date. I have traced about 1,950 descendants and their spouses, and their basic information is located on my GEDCOM. This file currently does not contain anything but birth, marriage, and death information and is unsourced. I do, however, have sources and will include them in a later update.

The index, divided into three parts for quicker loading, lists every descendant in the family tree. It will eventually be linked to other pages on this site, so that you can look at the index to see if a person is mentioned in a will or deed, if I have a census record or obituary for him, etc.

I would like to mention that I do not distinguish between the two current spellings of the Cavenaugh surname. I prefer to use "Cavenaugh" instead of "Cavanaugh" because the former is more common in records, and also because it helps to distinguish Silvester's line from most other Cavanaugh families in the United States. It should be remembered that spelling has historically been based on pronunciation, which is why the same name shows up in records as Cavenaugh, Cavanaugh, Cavenoh, Cavenoe, Cavener, Cavnor, Cavender, etc.
