Mrs. Minnie Murray Cavenaugh, age 63, of Route 2, Wallace, died early today (Monday) in the Duplin General Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. in the Edgerton Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. George W. Dowd and the Rev. K. D. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Cavenaugh cemetery.
Survivors are her husband, John R. Cavenaugh; two daughters, Amber Ann Cavenaugh of the home and Mrs. Clayton Jones of Willard; two sons, Joseph M. Cavenaugh of Wallace and Morris E. Cavenaugh of Magnolia; ten grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Stanley Cavenaugh, Aaron Cavenaugh, Elmer Cavenaugh, Dulan Murray, W. D. Murray, Jr., and Bruce Boney."

Wallace - William Earl Cottle Sr., 46, died Tuesday at his home, Rt. 1, Beulaville.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at the Community Baptist Church in Chinquapin officiated by Rev. Ralph Kennedy. Burial will follow in the Jacob Cavenaugh Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marie Hunter Cottle; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Thigpin, of Wallace; three sons, William James Cottle and Jeff Cottle, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Callie Cottle, of Beulaville; two sisters, Velma Lanier, of Kinston, and Mrs. Lena Mae Heath, of Greensboro; two brothers, Ellis Cottle, of Holland Springs, Va., and Elbert Cottle, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Active pallbearers include Tete Brinkley, Norman Kennedy, Earl Kennedy, Berry L. Mobley, Bennie R. Mobley, and Charles Epley."

Wallace - Kirby Smith Rogers, 73, of Rt. 2, Wallace, died Friday in Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw.
He was a native of Duplin County, son of the late Charlie and Mary Cavenaugh Rogers.
He was a retired farmer, and a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Violet Futrell, Mrs. Evelyn Stallings, both of Wallace, and Mrs. Louise Deitz of Castle Hayne; nine sons, Ralph, Daril, and Roy, all of Wallace, Elmo, of Charleston, S. C., Thomas, of El Toro, Calif., Kirby Jr., of Anaheim, Calif., Clarence, of the U. S. Coast Guard at Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., Lloyd, of Garden City, Ga., and David, with the U. S. Army in Vietnam; a sister, Mrs. Emma Padgett of Wallace; two brothers, John, of Elizabeth City, and Heath, of Goldsboro; twenty grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of David from Vietnam, and will be announced by the Edgerton Funeral Home."

Wallace - William Henry Cavenaugh, 93, died Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Northeast Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. J. E. Andrews, the Rev. Vance Rich, the Rev. David Conert and the Rev. K. D. Brown. Burial will follow in the Cavenaugh cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, William David Cavenaugh of Wallace and James E. Cavenaugh of Caycee, S. C.; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou White and Mrs. Margaret Teachey of Wallace; ten grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
He was a member and deacon of the Northeast Freewill Baptist Church and a retired farmer."

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Laura Brock, of Beulaville, Mrs. Gladys Thigpen, of Wallace, and Mrs. Sarah Henderson, of Goldsboro.
Active pallbearers are Leon, Ray, and Johnny Thigpen, Raeford Brock, Preston Alberson, and Ward Batchelor.
The family will be at Mrs. Gladys Thigpens residence on Rt. 2, Wallace."

"Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Kirks Carter, 78, a Selma housewife of 911 W. Waddell Street, were held Tuesday at the Selma Church of God. The Rev. Joseph E. Hayes and the Rev. Herbert F. Carter presided.
Interment followed at the Crocker Cemetery on Route 3, Selma.
A member of the Church of God, she is survived by:
Six daughters -- Mrs. Charles McGinnis, St. Petersburg, Florida; Mrs. Johnny W. Brown, Selma; Mrs. Frank Komlemic, Pittsburg, Pa.; Mrs. Nelson Wheeler, Indianapolis, Indianna; Mrs. Linwood Moye, Bradenton, Florida; Mrs. Mitchell Rabil, Smithfield.
Four sons -- Dr. William Howard Carter, Goldsboro; Woodrow W., of Smithfield; Loomis of Wilmington; and Herbert of Fayatteville [sic]; two sisters -- Mrs. Rabie Futch of Selma and Mrs. Mertie Davis of Rt. 3 Smithfield; one brother -- Oscar Kirks of Rt. 3 Smithfield; and eleven grandchildren."

Mr. Cavenaugh was a native of Dupland County. He was the son of the late Stephen and Martha Burton Cavenaugh. Mr. Cavenaugh was a retired farmer and deacon of the Northeast Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cora Brown Cavenaugh; two daughters, Mrs. Norman Hanchey and Mrs. Sam Hardison of Wallace; five sons, James J., Rifdon, Vernon, and Wallace Cavenaugh of Richmond, Va., and Lynn Cavenaugh of Washington, D. C.; one sister, Mrs. Kelly Faver of Richmond, Va.; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday from the Northeast Penecostal [sic] Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. David Conert, the Rev. Vance Rich, and the Rev. K. D. Brown.
Burial will be in the Covebay Cemetery, Route 2, Wallace.
Visitation can be made at the Edgerton Funeral Home at Wallace until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Pallbearers include Bobby, Michael, and Tommy Cavenaugh, Thurman Hardison, and Emmitt and Earl Hanchey."

Funeral services will be held Monday at the Teachey Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Larry Blount and the Rev. Kenneth Woodard. Burial will be in the Rock Fish Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Raeford Wells; a daughter, Miss Shelby Wells of Fayetteville; a sister, Mrs. Sidney Smith of Warsaw; two brothers, J. R. Teachey of Rose Hill and Clifton Teachey of Portsmouth, Va.
A native of Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late John and Dora Cavenaugh Teachey and was a member of the Teachey Baptist Church. Visitations will be at Edgerton Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Monday when the body will be taken to the church."

A native of Duplin County, he was the son of the late Riley and Ellen Brown Cavenaugh. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Pin Hook Church."

Mr. Sholar was a native of Duplin County, the son of the Ned [sic] and Emma Cavenaugh Sholar, and a retired farmer.
Pallbearers will be Homer English, Hill Teachey Jr.; Horace James, Ronnie Aikens, Glenn Sholar, and Howard Murray.
The family will be at the residence of Johnnie C. Rivenbark at 207 Craven St. in wallace [sic]."

Marshburn of Richlands, and Mrs. Ralph Thompson of Pine Level; three sons, Ellis, Albert and Jessie Lanier, all of Beulaville; 29 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late William and Barbara Cavenaugh Maready and the widow of the late Spious Lanier.

Franklin Cavenaugh, US Air Force, Charleston, S. C.; one step-son, Cornelius Dixon of Winston-Salem; two half-sisters, Mrs. Sudie Mae Jones of Warsaw and Mrs. Pholetta Faircloth of Whiteville; two half-brothers, Alton Cavenaugh of Meridian, Miss., and Jackie Cavenaugh of Warsaw; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A native of Jones County, he was a retired justice of the peace, a retired employee of Atlantic Casket Company of Rose Hill, a member of the Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church, and a deacon for several years.
He was the son of the late Alonzo and Ida Wroten Cavenaugh.
Pallbearers will be Everett Murray, Carey Everett, E. J. Whaley Jr., Franklin Cottle, J. C. Rivenbark, and Howard Murray.
Visitation will be at Edgerton Funeral Home until 2:30 p.m. when the body will be taken to the church."

C., Norman of Tulsa, Okal. [sic], Alvin of Greensboro and Dean Eubanks of Beulaville; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren., [sic]

Funeral services for Charlie Herbert Carter, 68, of Warsaw, who died Sunday, were held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Community Funeral Chapel by the Revs. Ray Brown and H. T. Baumgardner. Burial was in the Carter family cemetery.
Surviving: his widow, Mrs. Pearl D. Carter; five daughters, Mrs. Gladys Watkins of Turkey, Mrs. Vivian Norris of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Edna Belle Murphy of Pink Hill, Mrs. Inex Lane and Mrs. Vernell Grady of Warsaw; four sons, Charlie H. Jr. of Pink Hill, William Edward, Linwood Eugene and James E. of Kenansville; a sister, Mrs. Dora Whaley of Kenansville; two brothers, Johnny of Richlands and Henry Carter of Bowden; five half sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Carter of Plymouth, Mrs. Lottie Holland of Faison, Mrs. Swannie Holland of Turkey, Mrs. Adell Straughan of Wilmington and Mrs. Mable Anne Tyndell of Baltimore, Md.; three half brothers, A. Wallace - Mrs. Lula Wallace Stroud, age 80, died Wednesday in Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Edgerton Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. William D. Sabiston III. Burial will follow in the Wallace Family Cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Nada Jarman of Jacksonville, Mrs. Vera Brock of Hazelwood and Mrs. Katherine Williams of Beulaville; two step-daughters, Mrs. Edith Mae Teachey of Rose Hill and Mrs. Hazel Moore of Anaheim, California; two sons, Rev. Clifton Wallace of Albemarle and R. B. Wallace of Portsmouth, Va.; one stepson, Donald Stroud of Westmont, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Bullard Waynesville; 32 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late John Wright and Emma Cavenaugh, and the widow of the late Flade Stroud, and a member of the Wallace United Methodist Church.
The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will be at Mrs. Stroud's residence at 314 East Carr Street.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Edgerton Funeral Home in Wallace."

Castle Hayne -- Mrs. Emma Moore Rooks, 58, died Saturday morning in New Hanover Memorial Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Henry Platt Moore and Nora Mills Moore. She was a member of the Watha Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p. m. from the Watha Methodist Church with the Rev. Travis Owens and the Rev. A. C. Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements by the Quinn-McGowan Funeral Home of Burgaw.
Surviving are her husband, Leon Frederick Rooks Sr., of the home; a daughter, Mrs. G. (Betty) Humbles Hayne three sons, Leon Frederick Rooks Jr. of Wilmington, Billy Platt Rooks and Randy Dwight Rooks, both of Castle Hayne; seven brothers, Gene A. Mills of Charlotte, Julian C. Mills of Willard, Robert G. Mills of Jacksonville, Fla., Jerry L. Mills, Milton A. Mills, Harry N. Mills, Kenneth W. Mills, all of Watha; twelve grandchildren.
The family will be at the Quinn-McGowan Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p. m. Sunday to receive friends and visitors.
The body will remain at the funeral home until 1 p. m. Monday when it will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service."

Castle Hayne, N. C. -- Mrs. Kathleen Savage Brown, 56, of Route 1, Box 126, in Castle Hayne, N. C., died late Wednesday night in the New Hanover Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Rose Hill, N. C., born October 2, 1917, Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mrs. Priscillia S. Savage. She was a member of First Pentacostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are her husband, Pender L. Brown of the home; one son, Timothy Mark Brown, also of the home; six daughters, Mrs. Betty Cox of Kinston, N. C., Mrs. Yvonne Dill and Mrs. Judy White, both of Wilmington, N. C., Mrs. Nell Gayhart of Jacksonville, N. C., Mrs. Joyce Sykes of Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Faye Burton of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Joel Savage of Wilmington and Jesse D. Savage of Florence, S. C.; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Morse, Mrs. Nora Carr, Mrs. Annie Billings, and Mrs. Daisy Batten, all of Wilmington, N. C.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the First Pentacostal Holiness Church, Rev. T. O. Todd and Rev. K. D. Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Brown Family Cemetery near Burgaw, N. C.
The family will receive friends from Coble's Oleander Chapel Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m."

Columbus Lee Ritter

Castle Hayne - Mr. Columbus Lee Ritter, 67, of Rt. 1, Castle Hayne, died early Monday morning following a long illness.
Born in Castle Hayne, N. C. on September 13, 1906, Mr. Ritter was the son of the late William T. and Mrs. Cora Lee Pittman Ritter. He was married to the late Mrs. Lois Jane Rouse Ritter who died in 1969. Mr. Ritter, prior to his retirement, had been a prominent and well known farmer in the Castle Hayne area. He was a director and vice-president for the Hanover Mutual Exchange and was a life-long member and Deacon of the Wrightsboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Shirley R. LaSure of Porters Neck, and Miss Elizabeth Jean Ritter of Raleigh; a sister, Mrs. Effie Mae Tartt of Castle Hayne; four grandchildren, Brian Scott LaSure, Bruce James LaSure, Allyson LaSure and Lee Ann LaSure, all of Porters Neck; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. from Coble's Oleander Chapel, Rev. Boyd L. Lambert and the Rev. Wayne Slayton officiating. Interment will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
Casketbearers will be Robert Wells, Tommy L. Todd, Tom Ennis, Perry Whitman Jr., George Futch, and J. B. Rivenbark.
Honorary bearers will be W. R. Todd, C. J. Drevyn, M. C. Cagle, Roland Edwards, O. D. Buck, Clayton W. Fountain, J.
