Rose Hill - Mrs. Lucy Batts Harrell, age 86, of 109 Teachey Loop Road, Rose Hill, died Friday, January 21, 2000, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 24, from the Charity United Methodist Church conducted by Pastor John Norman. Burial will follow in the Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Rouse and husband, C.C. of Kenansville; one son, Harry G. Harrell and wife, Pat, of Goldsboro; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Lanier Blanchard of Burgaw.
The family will receive at the Padgett Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday and will be at Mrs. Harrell's residence, 109 Teachey Loop Road, Rose Hill other times.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Charity United Methodist Church or to the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

Mrs. Dorothy Anderson Roberts of Wrightsville Beach, NC died Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.
She was born July 6, 1914 in Watha, NC, daughter of the late Arthur and Mable Rivenbark Anderson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Roberts and her brother, Arthur Buren Anderson.
Mrs. Roberts was a lifelong member of Watha United Methodist Church. She was a 1934 graduate of James Walker Memorial School of Nursing. Mrs. Roberts was the original owner and operator of Robert's Supermarket at Wrightsville Beach. She was a member of the North Carolina Sorosis Inc.
Surviving are her two sisters, Mrs. Esther A. Webb and husband Harry of Watha, NC and Mrs. Mary A. Smith and husband Macon of Willard, NC; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Veona Anderson of Burgaw, NC; two nieces, Annetta Koscher of Oregon and Janet Wester of Southport, NC; four nephews, David V. Padgett of Winter Park, FL, Nelson Smith of Roanoke, VA, Wright Anderson of Wilmington, NC, Thomas Anderson of Mt. Airy, NC; and thirteen great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2000 at Watha United Methodist Church by Rev. Karen Howell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel, and at other times Wednesday will be at the residence of the late Mrs. Roberts. Following the service Thursday, the family will be at the home of her sister, Mrs. Esther A. Webb.

Mr. Albert Alson Dail, 73, of Wilmington and formerly of Wallace, died Friday, February 25, 2000, at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Dail was born March 5, 1926, in Duplin County, and was the son of the late Riley Hayes and Agnes Lanier Dail.
Mr. Dail attended Watha United Methodist Church. He was a shoe repairman in Wilmington and Wallace for forty-four years. Serving in the Merchant Marines and the US Marine Corps, Mr. Dail was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Rachel Anderson Dail of the home; son, Ronald Alson Dail and wife, Sandra, of Wilmington; daughter, Wanda Dail Grainger and husband, Ernest, of Monroe, WI; and grandchildren, LaNee' Grainger, Melissa Grainger and Korey Dail.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Watha United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen Howell officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Casketbearers will be nephews of Albert Dail.

Wallace - Mary Lou Cavenaugh White, age 94, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Day Spring Assisted Living.
Mrs. White was born December 29, 1905, in Duplin County and was the daughter of the late William Henry and Della Bradshaw Cavenaugh. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Dewey White and two sons, Joseph White and M.H. "Bob" White.
She was a member of North East Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church for over 75 years.
Surviving are her daughters, Fannie W. King and husband, Elmer of Jacksonville, and Betty W. Matthews and husband, Robert, of Wallace; daughter-in-law, Barbara White Proctor; grandchildren, Gail King, Jo Lynn Bratcher, Bobby Matthews, Jayne Matthews, Susan Pruitt, M.H. White, Jr.; four great-grandchildren; brother, James Cavenaugh of Columbia, SC; and sister, Margaret Teachey of Wallace.
Due to the flooding at North East PFWB Church, Mrs. White's funeral service will be held at Wallace United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Frank Lloyd and the Rev. George "Buster" Price, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in Cavenaugh Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Harold Maready, Charlie Wood, Ralph Bratcher, Ralph Pruitt, John David Cavenaugh and Henry Proctor.

Mrs. Bonham was born September 9, 1926, in Brunswick County and was the daughter of the late J.W. and Fannie Lowhorn Cavanaugh. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Henry Bonham and three grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Rufus Bonham of the home; children, Rufus Bonham Jr. and wife, Frances, of Rocky Point, Janice LaVere and husband, Douglas, of Kings Mountain, Thomas Bonham and wife, Kimberly, of Rocky Point, and Rodney Bonham and wife, Marilynn, of Wilmington; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; twin brother, Johnny Cavanaugh of Bolivia; sisters, Ida Mae Guthrie of Wilmington, Magnolia Mintz of Wilmington, Nolan Cavanaugh of Wilmington, Carrie Watkins of Wilmington; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was born in Duplin County to the late Stacy Lee and Norma Cavenaugh Lanier Sr. He was a retired minister. He was preceded in death by a son, Morris Lanier.
Funeral services were held this morning at Padgett Funeral Chapel by the Revs. Juanita Hollowell and Billy Toler. Burial will follow in Cavenaugh Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Lanier; one daughter, Carolyn Godwin of Lillington; one sister, Dorothy Schafer of Raleigh; one brother, Roy Lanier of Morehead; and one granddaughter, Kimberley Godwin of Lillington."

Richlands -- Lyde Carter Mohn, 92, of Richlands died Friday, June 9, 2000 at her home. Mrs. Mohn was active in the Onslow County Homemakers Club, Meadows Branch, served as secretary of the Eastern Star for 15 years, secretary for the Woodsmen of the World for 30 years, and served on the Onslow County Council on Aging Activities Advisory Board. She also participated in the Meals on Wheels program for 15 years. She crocheted rugs and place mats, and painted in oils after taking art lessons during her late 60's. Involvement in church has been a mainstay in Mrs. Mohn's life. She sang for years at the First Christian Church in Richlands, where she was also the main organist for 45 years. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 11 at First Christian Church, Richlands with the Rev. Eddie Phenix officiating. Burial will be at Onslow Memorial Park in Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Mohn, Sr.; her parents, Levi and Rachel Carter; and 13 brothers and sisters. She was the beloved mother and grandmother of six children, 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Survivors include James (Jimmy) F. and Betty Mohn of Richlands, Donald Carter Mohn of Richlands, Robert H. and Donna Mohn of Raleigh, Kay M. and Walter Payne of Jacksonville, Frederick H. and Virginia Mohn of Knightdale and David J. and Jo Mohn of Stella. She was born April 7, 1911 in Wilmington, NC, daughter of the late Walter Lee and Ina Mae Cavanaugh Taylor, and was preceded in death by her first husband, Benton G. White, Sr., her second husband, Ralph Powell; three brothers, and four sisters.
Mrs. Powell was a long time member of First Christian Church, and was a volunteer for many years for the Hospitality House of Wilmington.
Surviving are her son, Benton Grier White, Jr. and wife Judy; one daughter, Syvaughn White Clemmons and husband Paul, all of Wilmington, NC; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Winnon V. Taylor of Columbia, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2000 at First Christian Church by Rev. Daniel Webster and Rev. Kathy Reinger. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

She was born April 5, 1923 in Chinquapin, NC, daughter of the late Richard (Dick) and Myrtie Mae Batts Futrell, and was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Hall, her husband, A.R. Hazelwood; two brothers, Allen Futrell and Ray Futrell; and two sisters, Myrtle Brown and Catherine Boykin.
Mrs. Hazelwood was a member of Ogden Baptist Church.
Surviving are her three children, Benjamin Hall Jr. and wife Mary, Linda Watkins and husband Billy, and Peggy Wells, all of Wilmington, NC; six grandchildren, Sheila Horrell, Micah Watkins, Melvin Wells Jr., Jonathan Wells, Amber Michelle Wells, and Benjamin Hall III; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Scheel of Tennessee, Lena Gerhardstein of Cincinnati, OH, and Mary Lilly Norris of Beulaville, NC; and one brother, Willie Futrell of Watha, NC.

Ms. Nolan Cavanaugh age 94 of 4801 Ilex Dr., Wilmington died Sunday March 4, 2001 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Cavanaugh was born May 5, 1906 in Wilmington, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Jacob Woodley and Ella Maxwell Cavenaugh. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Woodley Cavenaugh and Adolph Cavenaugh; three sisters, Louise Kelly, Sadie Lee Yopp, Mary Pearl Bonham, Minnie Cavanaugh.
Ms. Cavanaugh was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was active with The Young At Heart Group of Calvary Baptist Church. She retired from Block Shirt Factory after forty years of service at which time she was awarded a gold watch for her service.
She is survived by; three sisters, Carrie Watkins, Magnolia Mintz, Ida Mae Guthrie all of Wilmington; a brother, Johnny Earl Cavenaugh of Bolivia; a very special nephew, Reverend Winfield Kelly and wife Pinky, with whom she made her home; thirty-five nieces and nephews, numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She will always be loved, respected and missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel with Dr. Marc Drake officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Following the funeral services, family and friends are welcome at the home of the Reverend and Mrs. Winfield Kelly at 4801 Ilex Drive, Silva Terra, Wilmington.
Pallbearers will be, Johnny Yopp, Howard Mintz Sr., Linwood Guthrie, Andy Eason Sr., Rodney Bonham, Jacob Cavenaugh, David Kelly.

Mr. Alvin R. Eubanks, 71, of Greensboro, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at his residence.

Mr. Eubanks was a veteran of the United States Army and retired in 1989 from the United States Postal Service. He was also an avid fisherman.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Alvin is survived by his wife, Mable J. Mrs. Smith retired from the United States Postal Service after thirty-three years of service. She was an active life-long member of Watha United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her devoted husband of fifty-five years, Macon W. Smith of the home; her daughter, Janet Wester and husband, Bryan of Southport; her son, Nelson Smith and wife, Betsy of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Thad Wester, Katherine Wester, Kelly Smith and Kevin Smith and wife, Sarah; sister, Esther A. Mrs. Holladay was an active member of First Baptist Church, since joining in 1952, where she participated in many church functions. She was a retired bookkeeper from Fountain Oil Company.
Surviving are her son, James (Jim) Holladay and wife Libby of Hampstead; her daughter Melinda Holladay Hales and husband Clarence of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Kris Holladay Hines and husband John of Raleigh, NC, Eddie Hales and wife Veronica of Raleigh, NC, Susi Holladay Hamilton and husband Steve of Wilmington, Jeff Hales of Las Vegas, NV and Randy Holladay of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews, including Nell Stuart and husband Roland of Wilmington, Eva Ketelslager and husband Lamar of Kenansville, NC, H.L. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Fannie Ella Cavenaugh; five sisters, Minnie Cavenaugh, Nolan Cavenaugh, Louise Kelly, Sadie Lee Yopp, Mary Pearl Bonham; two brothers, Jacob Wood Cavenaugh Jr. and Louis Adolph Cavenaugh. Mrs. Watkins was a lifelong member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Order Of The Eastern Star.
She is survived by a brother, Johnny Cavenaugh of Bolivia; two sisters, Magnolia C. Mintz and Ida Mae Guthrie both of Wilmington.

The Onslow County, N.C., native had lived in Palatka since 1984, coming from Beulaville, N.C. He was a member of the Beulaville Baptist Church and attended the Pentecostal Revival Center in Palatka. He worked as a farmer for many years.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law: Annie and William Thompson.
He is survived by his niece and caregiver: Shirley Collins, Palatka; other nieces and nephews: Julia Houston Edna Lamb, Hugh Melton, all of Jacksonville; Alvin Melton, Marianna, Fla.; Sallie Marshburn, Richland, N.C.; Mavis Kent, Elkton; Mary Alice Dugger, William Morris Thompson, and Gerald Ray Thompson, all of Jacksonville; along with many great-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Henderson lived in Bowdens and Rose Hill before moving to Wilmington in 1983. She was a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. Being with her family was her favorite pastime, and she could have been mother of the century. She was loved by many friends and relatives.
She is survived by seven children, Jesse Henderson and wife Charlotte of Jacksonville, NC, Barbara Travis and husband Ken of Newbern, TN, Gail Henderson and wife Becky of Richmond, VA, Emily Best of Faison, NC, Janice Andrew and husband Jan of Anchorage, AK, Sam Henderson and wife Carol of Kirkwood, MO, and Winston Henderson and wife Bundy of Wilmington, NC. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Lanita Henderson of Leland, NC; a sister-in-law, Ruby Mathews of Teachey, NC; and a brother, Kenneth Norris of Burgaw, NC. In addition, Mrs. Henderson has 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2003 at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Paul Waters. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Cavenaugh Cemetery located on Highway 41, east of Wallace, NC.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, and following interment, the family will be at the home of Ruby Mathews near Teachey, NC.

Learlene Wallace Cottle, 93, of Rose Hill, NC, passed away on June 4, 2003, surrounded by her family.
Born in Duplin County, NC on October 8, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Graham Wallace and Charity Catherine Wallace.
Lerleane is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Honeycutt of Fayetteville, NC, and a son, James Howard Cottle, Jr. of Rose Hill, NC, one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Lerleane was dearly loved by her family and friends. Lerleane was known for her delightful personality and strong Christian faith. She loved to garden, cook and spend time visiting with family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday at the Community Funeral Home in Rose Hill, NC.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003 at Rose Hill Baptist Church, 401 East Main Street, Rose Hill, NC. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Firetower Road, Rose Hill, NC.

Mrs. Eleanor Olivia Dixon McGill, age 80, of 1349 North Teachey Road, Wallace, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Duplin General Hospital. The funeral will be today at 11:00 a.m. from the Padgett Funeral Chapel. Rev. Dale Myers and Rev. Allen Bundy will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Rockfish Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, John Leland McGill of the home; one brother, Lenwood Dixon of Tarboro; five nieces, Linda Wahnsiedler of New Bern, Cheryl Teachey of Rose Hill, Sarah Pohlman of Greenville, Carol Leggett of Robinsonville and Beth Rich of Wallace; two nephews, George Osborne Jr. of Cape Carteret and John Dixon of Wallace; six great-nieces, four great-nephews, and four great-great-nieces.
A native of Duplin County, Mrs. McGill was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Norma Wallace Dixon. She was a member of Teachey Baptist Church.
Casketbearers will be Blake Wallace, George D. McGill, Wesley Hairr, John Hardison Jr., John Dixon and David Osborne.
The family received at the funeral home Wednesday from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. and at their residence, 1349 North Teachey Road, Wallace, other times.

Mrs. Ida Mae Cavanaugh Guthrie, age 86, of Autumn Care Nursing Center, Wilmington, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003.
Mrs. Guthrie was born December 5, 1916 in Brunswick County and was the daughter of the late Jacob Woodley Cavanaugh and Fannie E. Lowhorn. She was wife of the late James Wendell Guthrie. Mrs. Guthrie was a member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, James L. Guthrie and friend Dottie Watson of Wilmington, NC; three daughters, Faye Tate and husband Shelton of Wilmington, NC, Mary Burke and husband Phillip of Clinton, N.C., Nancy Register and husband Joe of Greensboro, NC; seven grandchildren, Ray Tate, James Tate, Melissa Canady, David Burke, Karen Holub, Scott Register and Brandon Guthrie; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Tate, Jennifer Tate, Erin Canady, Morgan Canady, Justin Burke, Collin Register and Mira Register.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Wrightsboro Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Lewis and Rev. Keith Hollar officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearer will be William Jennings Bryan.

Mrs. Harris was born June 29, 1919, in Deep Run and was the daughter of the late John W. and Alma Rivenbark Cavenaugh. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Thomas Harris and daughter, Geraldine H. Donaldson.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Robbie J. Harris of the home; her children, Annie Ruth Moore of Burgaw, Juanita Faye Wilson and husband John of Wallace, Lloyd Harris and wife Sandra of Burgaw, Pauline Deppen of Wilmington, DE, James Harris and wife Beth of Newark, DE, Leonard Harris and wife Judy of Wilmington, DE, and Eugene Cavenaugh of Burgaw; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, John Cavenaugh of Burgaw, Larry Cavenaugh of Wilmington, Felton Cavenaugh of Detroit, MI, and Lawrence Cavenaugh of Rocky Point; sisters, Sadie Jordan of Burgaw and Emily Postl of Detroit, MI.

She was born in Duplin County, NC, on October 5, 1903, the daughter of the late Ernest and Priscilla Savage, and was the widow of Eddie Graham Carr. Remembered is her daughter, Edna Blanch Tartt.
Surviving her are two daughters, Lucy Mae Sellers of Winnabow and Kathleen Todd of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Daisey Batten of Wilmington.
A funeral service will be held 3 pm Monday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
