Families of the name of Vaughan in Ireland may spring from any of several different origins. Some of the name are of Welsh extraction, other of old Irish heritage and others still are of unknown settler origins.

Note the place name of Ballyvaughan in Co. Clare, and several Irish families of the name hail from that county and its surrounds. Most of the name are found in the province of Munster in official records on file.

The Vaughan family of Quilly, Co. Down descend from the first of that family in Ireland which was Rev. George Vaughan b. 1634, who stayed at Ardee for some period of time.
