9-25-00 Information received from Look-up Service, Dallas County MO.
"The Randleman family is mentioned in a couple places.
First mention is on page 99;
Following is a list of the names and locations of nearly all of the settlers of the territory of Dallas County upon or soon after there arrival of the Wilkinson family, in 1837: William E. Williams lived on the William L. Morrow place, one and a half miles north of Buffalo. Martin Randleman lived where Richard Wilkinson, Jr., now lives, in the suburbs of Buffalo, and had previously built a portion of the house in which Mr. Wilkinson now resides. Michael Randleman lived where A. A. Ramsey now lives, one-half mile north of Buffalo, and Jacob Randleman one mile south, on the Bennett place. The Randleman were brothers. And on page 552:
Methodist Episcopal Churches - The first church of this denomination in Dallas County, and as it is believed, the first one of any denomination within the county, was organized between 1838-1840, in the log school-house at Buffalo, by Rev. Elijah F. Yeager, with H. Stanley and wife, Jacob Randleman and wife, Martin Randleman and wife, W. L. Morrow and wife, William Stanley and wife, and perhaps others, as constituent members."

Notes for DAVID CUMMINGS BUTTS:
Per Dallas and Dade County MO query dated July 8 2000 by Louis Tirapelle.
David Cummings Butt and Josea (his wife?) are listed on the 1850 Dade County Census. David and Josea had two children, James H. and John W. in 1852 and 1854. He remarried in 1854 to Mary Rena Randleman and had children in Buffalo, Dallas County Mo. Then to Sonoma County, CA by wagon train in 1860 where they had six more children. It appears that David's father is James Nathaniel Butt, who, with his family, is listed in the household immediately prior to David C. Butt on the 1850 Dade County Census. Looking for any connection or help with this Butt family. Louis Tirapelle, Placerville, Ca.

Note; I am posting the information I received from the Ancestral file in Salt Lake. This shows that Mary Rena Randleman was married before she married David Butts. This ancestral file does show the spelling of "Butts" not Butt. Shows that David was previously married to Mrs. David Butts and had two children; Minerva Butts and Francis (Frank) Butts. This file shows David and Mary Rena had one child together born in Dallas Co., MO., and 5 children born in Fulton, Sonoma California. Sharlee

Randleman Cemetery is in Wilson Twp., Dallas Co., MO. Wilson Twp. shares its north border with Jasper Twp., its west border with South Benton Twp. and Laclede County on the east. Long Lane is in the middle of Wilson Twp. Jasper Twp. borders North Benton Twp. & Grant Twp. on the west, Sherman & Miller Twp. on the north and Laclede County on the East. Windyville is in the middle of Jasper Twp. There are 14 cemeteries in Jasper Twp.
Randleman Cem. is located 2 miles east of Long Lane on 32, left on a gravel road 2 miles, right about 1/2 mile and in the woods about 1/4 mile. The last time I was there we had to ask permission as it is on private property. The cemetery is in poor condition and stones are hard to read.

Hi Sharlee.
Well, I was able to prove the family disparity. Dorothy happened to have a copy of James Martin Randleman's service pension claim for the Civil War. It contained the maiden name of his wife, and the names of 4 of his children under 16 which were heretofore unknown to me. It's amazing what people have and don't know that they have. She also had that book you referenced.
So, at least I know for certain that hers is the James Martin Randleman born 1939 and not the one born in 1819!
Thank you!
Kathy

Hi Sharlee.
Thank you so much for writing back so quickly. As we speak, I am gathering my data to go over to Dorothy's and meet with another relative of hers and show them everything I’ve found.
Between the times I wrote to you this morning and now, the disparity bothered me so much that I did some further research. This is what I found:
KATHRYN'S NOTES: There are clearly two (James) Martin Randleman's in Missouri, which is proven by the 1860 Census.
This one: Year: 1860; Census Place: Benton, Dallas, Missouri; Roll: M653_617; Page: 0; Image: 207. APPEARS as MARTIN born 1918 in Illinois, married to a Martha born in 1822. They have 3 children, Rebecca, Mary and Sarah Jane who marries a Watkins. Martha ends up widowed and living with Sarah Jane in the 1870 Census, thereby validating THIS Martin's death date. According to an ancestral file entry, the Martha he married was a Cooksey.
This one: Year: 1860; Census Place: Benton, Dallas, Missouri; Roll: M653_617; Page: 0; Image: 199. APPEARS as James M. Born 1839 or 1840 in Missouri, he is single in this census, living with his parents Martin and Meribah and siblings. In the 1870 census he shows being married ALSO to a Martha. In subsequent censuses they have children Charley (Charles) John and Michael. Allegedly, the Martha HE marries is a Frizzell.
