1. SAMUEL A. TRASK was born Brooklyn, New York, and died Bet. 1847 - 1850 in Missouri.
He married SARAH BROWN GIFFORD or SARAH GIFFORD BROWN Bef. 1834 She was born Abt. 1810 in Rhode Island, and died 29 September 1866.

Notes for SAMUEL TRASK:
See Samuel son George W. Trask on a 1879 Biographies that was published in 1879 Greene Co., IL. In this file it tells of Samuel.
Well, the Bio from Geoge W. Trask was all together correct. Yes, Samuel his father did go to Cuba.
Received e-mail from Suzanne at [email protected] November 7, 2002.
"Saml Trask found in: Passenger and Immigration Lists: New Orleans, 1820-1850 Age: 29 Port of Departure: Havana and Chagres Arrival Date: September 24, 1850 Gender: Male Family Number: 458250 Port of Arrival: New Orleans Nat'l Archives Series No.: M259-32 Country of Origin: United States of America Ship Name: Falcon."

The family information that was given to me about Samuel came from Mrs. Sarah Campbell Durkee many years ago, showed that he died between 1847-1850. He was in Missouri for the 1840 Census, Samuel, his son was born 1847, so he went wondering after Samuel's birth. He didn't return from Cuba until Sept 24, 1850. So, it appears that he died after Sept 24 1850. The family appears on the Nov 1850 Census, except Samuel. Therefore, he either didn't make it home until after Nov 1850 or died in between those dates.

Per the 1900 US Census Howell County, Sarah G. McAllister lists both parents as being born in Rhode Island.

Hello,
I believe I have found a few documents that may shed some light on the lives of Samuel and Sarah Trask. I am in the process of requesting the probate files for Samuel and Sarah from the Missouri archives. There is a possibility that there is another child of Samuel & Sarah named William born about 1832. I am trying to verify if William Lafayette Trask is connected to our Samuel & Sarah. Check the tree by cacox66 named cox-10sep2010. At this point I have not been able to confirm or deny this relationship. Hopefully the probate records will shed some light. I would appreciate any thoughts on the notarized letter from William Trask of New York.
Also I am in contact with Martin Walt, grandson of Mary Eugenia Trask, age 88, who has two boxes of research that his mother spent the last 10 years of her life working on. He is will to pass on all the Trask info and any other I may be interested in. I will be meeting him this August 15th.
Feel free to pass this on to any others who are interested in Samuel and Sarah Trask.

Campbell had returned from Des Moines where she was called by the illness of her two sons, Floyd and Wendell. Another son, Richard, and a little grandson accompanied her.
G. E. McAllister purchased a couple of fine colts at Mtn. View.
March 11 1996 information told to me by My Aunt Mary McAllister Hope, that she could remember her Dads mother living off and on with them, in fact, he built a tiny room off of their tiny house with what 9 children, so she could have some privacy. That was in Alley Springs.

About six and a half miles west and a mite south of Mountain View, where Route V crosses the roadbed of the old Current river Railroad and Howell County road 308, is the place a post office called Trask was established October 30 1894.
The land around this four section corner area was not vigorously settled until the railroad branch was built across the north part of Howell County. And George W. McAllister became the owner of the northwest corner of Section 35 on October 27 1897 under the Homestead Act.

Page 177 George W. McAllister was appointed postmaster number 3, December 20, 1897. George and his wife, Sarah G., were listed in the 1880 census with their daughter, Edna, age 17.
Only one postmaster kept the office longer than Mr. McAllister's 11 years.

Page 184 Bertha G. Johnson replaced George W. McAllister as postmaster of Trask on Aug 12 1908.

Page 187 Gladys Bishop took the postmaster's office in Nov 9 1921. She went on to be the occupant who lasted longest in that office, with 11 years and 6 months. Her nearest competitor was George W. McAllister, who kept the office 10 years and 8 months.

Notes for SUSAN F. TRASK:

June 25, 2007 Received e-mail from Suzanne. She found Missouri Death Certificate for Susan Frances (Trask) Linden. Shows middle initial for Samuel her father and Brookly New York as his place of birth. Also shows that Susan's mother was Sarrah G. Brown. We have always been told it was Sarah Brown Gifford. We believe that the informant was in error on Sarah's birth place. GREAT JOB Suzanne!

May 10, 2002 Received e-mail from Suzanne Moore Herr [email protected] and listed her sister Jane Moore be a lady.com Hello Sharlee,
I think we may be cousins? My sister and I are trying to trace our Trask roots. Susan Trask, our gggrandmother, is listed on our ggrandmother's death certificate as being born in Monticello, Mo and from census record we see her parents were born in Maine and Vermont.

Susan Trask married John F. Linden (unknown location), but they had two children that we know of: Our ggrandmother Susan Frances Linden, born June 23, 1873 in Flatbush, Long Island, New York. They had another son John F. Linden.

We find a John F. and Susan Linden in the 1889-1891 back in Missouri in the Kansas City, Mo directory (and we think this is the elder Lindens).

Our great grandmother Susan Frances Linden then married we think Eugene Morrison (no evidence at this time). Our Grandfather was born Eugene Trask Morrison October 23 1893 in ? Missouri. Eugene Sr. apparently died in about 1901 and Susan Frances Linden married Charles T. Hummer in St. Joseph Mo. They changed Eugene Jr's name to Hummer. We find them in the 1920 census in St. Joseph Mo before moving to Florida. Eugene Jr. married my grandmother June Wareham in August 1920 in St. Joseph Mo, but the marriage ended in divorce by 1924. It gets very complicated with divorce, name changes, remarriages, adoption etc.. Besides, our grandmother keeping her first marriage to Eugene Jr. a secret. When we found out many years ago, my parents found the information we have (before the Net) and now we are trying to find my father's roots for him before he passes on. He is now 80.

Therefore, tracking our genetic roots has been difficult. We initially thought Eugene Trask Morrison was a Jr., but after obtaining Susan's death Certificate we see she was a Task, not Eugene, and now things are falling into place (at least on the Trask side) after seeing your postings at Genforum and the Monticello Mo connection.

My sister Jane and I would appreciate any information you have obtained on the Trask family. I am visiting my family in Southern California at this time, but I live in Santa Rosa, CA in Northern CA and would appreciate cc to info to both our E-mails. Sincerely,
[email protected] Jane Moore Bealady.com

My sister and I are searching for our family roots. It is a long story. But we think your John F. Linden is the brother of our great-grandmother Susan Frances Linden born June 23 1873, Flatbush, Long Island, New York, daughter of John F. Linden and Susan Trask Linden b. possibly Monticello, Missouri, according to Susan's death certificate. She died in Florida Aug 4 1948 and her body was shipped to Ashland Cemetery in I think St. Joseph MO. We know she married in we think Missouri.

Our father, the son of Eugene Jr., and our grandmother divorced when my father was 2 years old in about 1923 and my father never saw his father again, therefore we have hardly any information on our roots from our biological grandfather. We are anxiously looking forward to hearing from you. Suzanne@[email protected]

West Plains Quill
One of the pretty weddings of the month and one which is a great surprise to many friends of the contracting parties, was that of Mr. Guy W. Risley of Joplin and Miss Ruth G. Walt which took place in Memphis, Tenn., Tuesday evening. Both are well known in West Plains. Mr. Risley having been born here while his beautiful Southern bride is the sister of Martin Walt, Jr. Wednesday's Memphis Commercial Appeal gives the following full account of the nuptial event.
Last evening at 8 o'clock, on the wedding Anniversary of the bride's parents, Maj. and Mrs. Martin Walt, Miss Ruth Gifford Walt was married to Guy Weston Risley, Rev. Father Mahoney officiating. The bride's sister, Miss Nellie Walt, was her maid of honor and her brother, Chas. Walt, served the groom as best man. Included in the wedding party also were Maj. and Mrs. Walt, father and mother of the bride and niece, Miss Marie Walt, with Frank Walt the bride's brother.
The bride was gowned of the ceremony in a beautiful robe of duchesse satin with a garniture of rose point and Peary Ornaments. She carried a shower bouquet of Bride roses and Valley lilies.
The maid of honor wore a white lingerie robe over Nile green silk and carried sweet peas.
Miss Marie Walt wore a white lingerie robe over pink silk and Mrs. Walt was gowned in black satin messaline and lace.
An elegant reception followed the ceremony. The Walt home was beautifully adorned for the reception of the guests the ball being banked with magnolia blossoms and the drawing room covered with a canopy of asparagus ferns and Easter lilies, under the glowing light of hundreds of candles.
A pink color motif was carried out in Killarney roses and sweet peas in the dining room where a dainty meal was served. Over the bride's table was suspended a pink tulle wedding bell; the clapper formed by a shower bouquet of pink sweet peas.
Mr. and Mrs. Risley left last evening for a Western bridal tour, the bride wearing a dark blue traveling suit with had and accessories in harmony. After an extended trip they will make their home in New Orleans.

6. SAMUEL A. TRASK, JR., (SAMUEL1) was born 8 February 1848 in Monticello, Lewis Co. MO, and died 26 December 1920 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. He married MARY ELIZABETH LINDEN. She is the daughter JOHN J. LINDEN and SUSAN FRANCES TRASK. She was born October 1864 in New York.

Notes for SAMUEL A. TRASK:

SOURCE: I (Sharlee), received this email from PAUL LINDEN, 9 October 2012.
Paul, I hope by putting this on line, it will help you in your search. Sharlee
"Ever since I saw the 1930 Hawaii census with Mary E. L. Trask and her daughter Beatrice, I wondered if the E. L. stood for Mary Elizabeth Linden. I (Paul) have finally obtained two documents where the parents are listed as Samuel A Trask (Jr) and Mary Elizabeth Linden."
"Samuel Trask Jr's sister was Susan Francis Trask (1841-1921). Susan Married John J. Linden (1834-1895). John and Susan's daughter was Mary Elizabeth Linden and her brother was John Francis Linden (1871-1934) my grandfather. Samuel was the quartermaster sergeant at Fort Bowie from 1885 to 25 May 1887. Which happens to be two days after their first son Walter A. Trask was born. I am trying to find his birth certificate. Samuel and Mary's next two children (Beatrice and Samuel Dakota) were born while he was stationed at Fort Abraham Lincoln, North Dakota."
"John Francis Linden wrote about his experiences at Fort Bowie Arizona in 1886 at the end of the Apache wars when Geronimo was captured. In it he writes that "his mother baked a pie..." This would mean that Samuel and Mary (pregnant) were there with John J. Susan and son John F. Linden. I (Paul) traveled to Fort Bowie this summer to find traces of family history there and was only able to document Samuel. I ran into the fort historian Larry Ludwig and he has been helping with my (Paul) research with not much success to date." Paul Linden
