'What
Is This Thing
That Men Call Death'
What
is
this
thing
That men call death,
This quiet passing in the night?
'Tis not the end, but genesis
Of better worlds and greater light.
O
God,
touch
thou my aching heart,
And calm my troubled,
Haunting fears.
Let hope and faith,
Transcendent, pure,
Give strength and peace
Beyond my tears.
There
is
no death,
But only change,
With recompense for vict'ry won.
The gift of him
Who loved all men,
The Son of God,
The Holy One.

"After
pitching our tents we lay down
on the ground to get some sleep and
rest. In the night the tents
all
blew over. It was all ice and snow
where I was laying, and when
the
tents blew off I didn't wake
up I was so
tired. One man came and looked at
me.
He called some more men over saying, 'I
wonder if she is dead?'
He
patted me on the head and just then I
opened my eyes. He jumped
back.
I tried to raise my head but found that
my hair was frozen to the
ground.
They chopped the ice all around my hair,
and I got up and went over to
the
fire and melted the large pieces of ice
that were clinging to my hair,"

was not by chance that the Puritans left their
native land and sailed
