SEC-6 TWP-23 R-25 LOCATION: 15 Miles North of Shattuck and 2 miles West

The first cemetery board meeting was held September 10th, 1908. The land was donated by Mr. Bickford. The oldest recorded burial was of Oscar E. Hoffman in 1905. Reportedly there was an infant buried outside the cemetery late one night. The community members moved the grave inside the graveyard. Apparently it was a child of people traveling through. Exact location of placement is unknonw.

A visitor to this cemetery will note an area on the west side of the cemetery near the fence line that appears to have been a family plot marked with red bricks. It has been confirmed that this is not a burila plot, but an old area of foundation for a tool type shed that blew away a few years ago.

In the west fence row, unless they have been removed, there was a yellow marble stone with the letters M.E.H. Further north of this stone is a yellow marble stone with the letters L.M.F. These apparently were corner stones. However, the reasoning of why ther are in the fence line no one knows.

Also, these initials have not been matched to any family lot.

This type of stone was ofedn used for headstones.

Mr. Carl O'Hair and Mr. Don Shepherd are the caretakers of the records of this cemetery. NOTE: Poplar Grove Cemetery in Beaver County (Just on down the road West) was often referred to as Catesby Cemetery.

In 2003, Linda Fox and I met with Jim at the Bickford Cemetery. Jim has an airdale named Dax, who is a dog trained to find human remains. Unmarked graves were located by Dax and flagged, then recorded in the records.
