Greenwood Cemetery AKA Sunset AKA Greenwood Sunset

LOCATION: 7 Miles north of Fargo, 4 miles west and 1/2 mile north.
The Greenwood Church was founded in 1901 by Harriett Latta. The land for the cemetery was donated by James G. Latta for the burial of Lillie Nee:Mattoon Burnett, who was buried in her wedding dress in October of 1901. Harriett also named the cemetery "Sunset".
Excerpts of the Ladies Sunset Cemetery Association Minutes:
Nov. 20TH, 1901. The Ladies Sunset Cemetery Association met at the home of Mrs. Russell. The meeting was opened by the reading of the bylaws. Twenty new members were admitted. A motion was made and carried that the Secretary request the genglemen of the community to set a day at their earliest convienience to lay off the lots and walks in the cemetery and to furnish forth-five cedar post.
Jan 15TH, 1902. The S. C. Association met at Mrs. Overmeyers and was opened by the reading of the cemetery transfer from James G. Latta to the Ladies Sunset Cemetery Association. A motion was made and adopted that four lots in the N. W. corner of the cemetery should be reserved as a Potters Field. Members voted for the Secretary to write and obtain prices of wire that would be suitable to fence cemetery with; and that each member solicit all the funds they could and turn them in at the next meeting. Jan 29, 1902. Minutes read, approved. Motion made and carried to fence the cemetery with wire netting 30" high and Secretary should sent to Sears & Roebuck & Co., Chicago, Ill. for same. Members voted for the Secretary to purchase a new secretary book for the association.
The church was across the road east of the cemetery in section 10. Tradition of Memorial Day: The community would gather at the church and while the bell tolled, everyone would file across the road and place flowers on the graves.
Mr. Marvin Brown is the custodian of the cemetery records and original documentation.
