SEC-5 TWP-19 R-22
LOCATION: 1/2 MILE North of Harmon.

Main Gate, Harmon Cemetery

The first burial in this cemetery was of infant Ruby DANIELS in the month of April 1902. Her parents were traveling thru the area and had to stop for her birth. Mr. Richard BRIGGS offered a place for burial in the S. E. Corner of his land.

The Highland aka Fairview Cemetery was established in 1906. The north half of the cemetery was donated by Richard BRIGGS. The south half was donated by Rolla R. RICHARD.

The town site of Harmon was originally 1/2 mile west of the present location. The Harmon School was District No. 66. On January 30, 1914 the Harmon Nazarene Church was founded by the Rev. J.H. GRAY with 50 members. The name has officially been changed to the HARMON CEMETERY. The Harmon Community had many young men who served their country. Fourteen Harmon sons gave their lives.

Gordon Richard has photographed all of the headstones/markers in Harmon Cemetery. These phots update the cemetery as of June 2000. Click the name of the person to see the photo. If the name does not appear as a link, a photo is not available.

These photos are available to anyone who wishes to use them. The original photos are 1280X960 pixels, therefore the photos online are thumbnails. Changing the size of the photo may cause some loss in detail. The image file can be taken to a photo shop and have a reasonably good paper picture printed if you do not have the necessary tools to do so yourself. The larger photo might be better for this purpose. I will forward a copy of any specific headstone to anyone who has a need for the larger photo.

Feel free to download any of these photos to your computer.

Some of the information taken from the headstone photos differs from what is in the text records received from Ellis County Historical Society. To see the text list click here
