Stone Cemetery AKA Black
SEC-10 TWP-18 R-21
LOCATION: 20 Miles east of Arnett and 7 miles south.
This cemetery was noted on at least one burial record as the Black Cemetery. The cemetery origin is currently unknown.
This cemetery land was owned by Andrew Smith in 1910. It is not known whether or not he donated the land.
The original entrance to the cemetery was on the east side. The roadwas was also on the east. When the roadwas was rerouted, the gate was moved to west side.
Reprotedly there are many graves on the east side of the cemetery, both on the north and south sides of the cemetery's center roadway.
This cemetery is well kept and holds a lot of history. It is unfortunate that the history will never be recovered.
Mrs. Wana Kryger checked the records at the Shaw Funeral Home for any additional information on this cemetery and four others that are in the eastern part of Ellis County. She also corresponded with Mrs. Keyser who has plat of this cemetery.
