Betty Earl (Weaver), aged 78 years, long time resident of O´Connor Township, and for the past year, a resident of the Kay Bee Senior Apts. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Betty was born in Fort William, Ontario on June 9, 1927 and moved to O´Connor with her husband Donald William Earl at the tender age of 17. They were married on October 25, 1944 and took up residence on the original Earl farm. Betty is survived by her four children, Ronald (Patricia), Greg (Corinne), Sharon (Allan) Scott, Darryl (Catriona), and her grandchildren Mark (Dawn Ann), Jason (Christine) Earl, Sue (Kevin) Mandryk, Carol (Mark) Gunn, Allan Scott Jr. and David Earl. Her great grandchildren Christine, Scott and Ashley Gunn, Curtis Cryderman and Kenny Mandryk, Dustin and Caitlin Earl. Betty is also survived by her sisters Inez (Roy) Schultz, Kate Mefford, Joan (Richard) Papiernik, brother Jack Weaver and half-sister Earla Cliff. Through her life, Betty was employed by Can Car, Kakabeka Timber and the Thunder Bay Tree Nursery. Betty´s main interests in life were home, church and always knitting mitts and toques to keep her family warm. Betty was an active member of the O´Connor Free Methodist Church, handcrafting gifts for the cradle roll for the past 30 years. Betty was also a long time member of the O´Connor Women´s Institute and The Women´s Ministry. Betty was awarded the Senior of the Year award in 2004 from her beloved township. This award was well deserved as she and her best friend Rose Macdonald spent many many hours visiting the elderly, sick and shut-in people wherever there was a need. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Donald William on August 17, 1990, and sister Jean Stahl. In keeping with Betty´s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at the O´Connor Free Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. A private ceremony for immediate family only, will be at the O´Connor Free Methodist Cemetery. A reception will be held at the O´Connor Municipal Building following the service. Mrs. Oscar Earl, a long time resident of O'Connor township, died in hospital this morning at the age of 76. Mrs. Earl had been ill the last three months but had only been in hospital a short time. The former Catherine Ann Mayo and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Mayo, she was born Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario and came to the district in 1904, marrying Oscar Earl at O'Connor Dec 12, 1906. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. Mrs. Earl was a member of the Free Methodist Church of O'Connor and treasurer of the Church Women's Missionary Society. Her home, family and church were her life. Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mabel (Mrs. D'Eyncourt Whittaker) of Kakabeka Falls; and Viola (Mrs. James Joyce) of Bromhead, Sask., and four sons, Inspector Charles E. Earl of South Marks street; George Earl of O'Connor; Orval at home, and Donald, O'Connor township. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two brothers, George Mayo of Windsor and Charles Mayo of Tupper street, Port Arthur. Nephews and nieces alaos survive. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. after removal of the body from the Jenkens Funeral Home at noon to the Free Methodist Church, O'Connor. The service will be conducted by Rev. G.W. Stevens and internment will follow in the Free Methodist Church Cemetery,

George Oscar Earl, 50, a resident of O'Connor township, died at home Saturday night after a heart seizure. Born and educated in O'Connor township, he farmed there, was employed during World War 11 at Canadian Car Co. Ltd, plant, was a pulpwood cutter and lately worked as a grain trimmer. Mr. Earl was member of St. Phillips Roman Catholic Church at Hymers and was married to the former Mary Silvaggio in 1935. Besides his wife at home, he is survived by a son, Larry at home; four daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Sam Lennox), of Brown Street; Patricia (Mrs. J.R. Connolly) of O'Connor; Georgina (Mrs. Robert Lennox) of Cameron Street and Nita at home; two grandchildren; his father Oscar of West Brock Street; three brothers, Chief C. E. Earl of Fort William Police Department, South Marks Street and Don and Orvil of O'Connor, and two sisters, Mrs. D. Whittaker of O'Connor and Mrs. J. Joyce in Saskatchewan.

A farmer in the Kakabeka Falls district and former member of the district school board, Thomas James Earl, 71, died at the family home this morning. Mr. Earl was born at Oxford County, Ontario and came to O'Connor township 54 years ago and operated his own farm ever since. Survivng are his wife Hannah Harriet; four daughters, Exa (Mrs. Randle) of Port Arthur; Miss Vera Earl at home; Ruth and Naomi Earl at Three Hills, Alberta.; a sister Mrs. Laura Hill of 524 North Brodie, Fort William and two grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday from Sargent's Chapel at 1 p.m. to O'Connor Union Church for services at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Donald Sinclair, Baptist Church. Internment will be in the O'Connor Cemetery

Mrs. Effie Elchuk, age 80 years, resident of Central Park Lodge, died at her residence on Tuesday July 29, 1969. Survived by one son George, of RR No 2, Fort William; four daughters, Mary, Mrs. J. Enders of Kakabeka Falls; Anne, Mrs. M.N. Vaillancourt of Burlington, Ont.; Mabel, Mrs. J.E. Maley, RR 3 Slate River; Kathleen, Mrs. G. Maley, 219 W. Amelia Street; one sister, Lena, Mrs. M. Achtymichuk, Yorkton, Sask.; one brother John Teslak of Saskatoon, Sask.; 20 grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives survive. Her husband Theodore predeceased her on November 10, 1963. Mrs. Effie Elchuk is resting at the Geo. E. Blake Funeral Chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements.

The death occurred at 3 o'clock this morning of Annie, wife of John Enders of Kakabeka Falls. She was 26 years old. She had been ill only since Saturday. Besides her husband, she is survived by twin sons, born Saturday, and a daughter Anna, aged six. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. M. Cook of Stanley; her father, A. Pogue, and a brother Archie Pogue, both of Stanley, and another brother, John Pogue of Kakabeka Falls, and a sister, Mrs. S. Campbell, also of Kakabeka Falls. Another sister, Mrs. S. Laughton, resides in Fort William while the deceased's mother and two other sisters reside in Saskatchewan. The funeral will be held at 12:30 Tuesday from the home at Kakabeka Falls to the cemetery at Stanley. The Rev. J.M. Newby, Baptist pastor will officiate.

The death occurred last night at Ingolf, of Mrs. George Enright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Stevenson, Murillo, after a lingering illness at the age of 32 years. Although ill for some time the deceased was able to be about her household duties and a letter written by her yesterday was received this morning by her sorrowing parents. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and three small children, Vernon, arthur and Aldeen. The remains will reach Murillo on Number two today and the funeral will be held on Sunday from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson to Stanley Cemetery where internment will take place.

J.J. Muldoon, Rector of St. Patricks's Roman Catholic Church officiated. Internment was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Excerpt from Fatalities are Numerous-"The fatalities from gas fumes occured near Hymers where Jim Thatcher was sinking a well on his farm. John Thatcher, John Erickson and D. Maki were assisting him. Maki went down into the shaft to hoist up some rocks and was overcome by the fumes. John Erickson went to his rescue and he too, was overcome. Then John Thatcher went down and met a like fate......of the party, then hurried off for assistance, but all three were dead before they were taken out of the well. Coroner Birdsall is now at Hymers investigating the occurence. Erickson resided here for a time. He is about 35 years of age and leaves a widow, eight children and an aged mother. John Thatcher was about 55 years of age, a widower and a native of Guelph. D. Maki was 28 years of age and unmarried.

Funeral services for Mr. Uno Erickson (Nyrhila) aged 67 years of Nolalu, who died in hospital Tuesday were held Friday morning in the Jenkens Funeral Home, Rev. Eric Vuorinen of Bethel Lutheran Church officiated and internment was in the Nolalu cemetery. The pallbearers were David Erickson, Ted Oinonen, Allan Ojala, Allan Erickson, Howard Huhta and William Erickson. Largely attended by family and friends of the Lakehead, Nolalu and South Gillies area.

The double funeral of Aimo Euren, age 36, Intola, and Alfred Blixt, 27, Kivikoski, who were both killed in a truck crash near Armstrong last Thursday was held at 3:15 p.m. yesterday from the Everest Funeral Chapel to Riverside Cemetery for burial. Rev. R.A. Ranta officiated. The funeral was largely attended. Pallbearers for Aimo Euren were George Paavala, Edwin Nurmi, James Dawson, Dick Strawson, Duke McKinnon and Don McLean. Pallbearrers for Alfred Blixt were Bill Wainio, Ray Wainio, Norman Makela, Ray Takala, Bruce Niemi and Mauno Luhtala.

The funeral of Mrs. Clara Everett, 72, pioneer resident of this district and widow of the late Robert Reid Everett, who died Saturday afternoon was held yesterday afternoon from the Geo. E. Blake Funeral Chapel at 2 o'clock. Services were conducted by the Rev. S. F. Yeomans, rector of St. Luke's Anglican Church. There was a large attendance and the minister delivered words of condolence. There were two hymns "Safe In The Arms Of Jesus" and "Rock Of Ages" with Mrs. Marion Beecher, A.T.C.M., presiding at the organ. Burial was made in the family plot, Stanley Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers comprised of three sons; George, Harvey and John; a son-in-law Edward St. Lawrence; a brother Robert Everett and a nephew Roy Bingham.

Mrs. John Everitt, of Oliver township, died at her home near Murillo on Saturday, heart failure being the cause. Mr. and Mrs. Everett where among the pioneers of the district, coming here from Owen Sound 22 years ago. She was 57 years of age.

A native and pioneer farmer of Oliver Township, Lawson B. Everett, 60, died at the family home near Murillo yesterday afternoon following a heart seizure. The death came as a shock to the farming community of Murillo where he had lived all his life. Mr. Everett had been in apparently good health. He was born in Oliver township, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Everett. Educated in Oliver schools, he had farmed in the township all his life. Mr. Everett had taken a keen interest in the community affairs. He was a member of the Oliver Agricultutal Society and had won many prizes in the society-sponsored Murillo fair. Mr. Everett was the owner of a fine herd of Hereford cattle. He was a member of the Murillo United Church and a former member of the Loyal Orange Lodge. He was marreid to the former Miss Millie Everett who predeceased him in 1935. He was remarried in 1947 to Miss Margaret Kennedy. Surviving are his wife, one son Ronald, Oliver Township; a grandson Barry; three sisters, Effie, Mrs. W. Reid, Murillo; Mrs. Gladys Rochon, Keewatin, Ont.; and Clara, Mrs. Ernest Pond, Saskatoon, and a brother William Everett, 370 Empire Avenue. Also surviving are uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Jenkens Funeral home with Rev. R.J. Parsons of Murillo United Church officiating. Burial will be in the family plot, Stanley Hill Cemetery.

Myrtle Everett, 10-year-old daughter of Mrs. Martha Everett of Murillo, died in Port Arthur Hospital this morning after a brief illness. Born in Murillo, she had attended No. 3 Oliver school and was in grade 3. Surviving are her mother, five brothers, five sisters, aunts and uncles. Her father predeceased her in 1953. The brothers are Arvo, Toivo, James, William and Peter, all at home. Sisters are Lillian (Mrs. Ed Janutnen), Murillo; Violet of South Empire Avenue, Port Arthur; and Helmi, Jean and Darlene, at home. The body rests at Everest Fuenral Home pending burial arrangements.
