| Kim | Hannah | Oneida, Madison, Onondaga |
I have read in a few places that my ancestor
Hannah JOHNSON (1746-1830), wife of Thomas Winthrop LEWIS
(1747-1831), was related to the JOHNSON family
of Van Buren, Onondaga Co., NY.
I have seen no proof or reasoning for this
statement. Anybody have any suggestions or information?
First Generation
1. Thomas Winthrop LEWIS was born in 1747
in Canaan, Litchfield Co., CT.1,2
He signed a will on 22 Jun 1831 in Pompey,
Onondaga Co., NY.3 The will mentions grandson William R.
Lewis, son of Thomas J. Lewis; grandson Ezra Ensworth;
granddaughters Susannah Ensworth, Nancy Newkirk and Flora
Ensworth the wife of B. Pierce; daughters Polly Coburn and
Electy B. Morgan.
Executors Wm. R. Lewis and Benjamin D.
Lewis. Witnessed by John Morse and Joel Wright of Pompey.
The will was proved on 1 Aug 1831 in the County of Onondaga,
New York. He died on 27 Jun 1831 in Pompey, Onondaga Co.,
NY.1-5
He was buried in Bethel Cemetery,
Cazenovia, Madison Co., NY.4-6 He was a teacher.1
Thomas Winthrop LEWIS and Hannah JOHNSON
were married before 1770.1,5 They appeared in the census in
1790 in Litchfield, Litchfield Co., CT.7 They appeared in
the census in 1800 in Whitestown, Oneida Co., NY.8 They
appeared in the censuses in 1810, 1820 and 1830 in Pompey,
Onondaga Co.,
NY.1,9,10,11,12 When Thomas Winthrop
Lewis came to the Town of Pompey, he took up about a 300
acre tract of land in the town. Thomas may have purchased
his Pompey property in 1811, when he acquired land in lot
33; in 1816 he purchased land in lot 22; the next year lot
32, and in 1827, lot 23.
Numerous purchased were made after these
dates. These lots came together near the Lewis homestead.

| Linda Mathew | Noel, Jonathan | Madison |
Noel Johnson was b. 1765 in Coventry, RI, son of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Yates) Johnson. He married in 1787 in Pownal, VT, Mary Weaver, daughter of Rufus and Hannah Weaver. By 1800, he was living in Cazenovia, Madison County, NY, where he stayed at least until 1835, when he and his wife sold their farm in Cazenovia, plus 77 acres in the neighboring town of Nelson. Census records indicate he had several children. Who were they and where did they go? Johnson's named Weaver (or Webber), Elias, David, and John were living near him in Cazenovia as shown by the 1820 and 1830 census. Were they his sons? |
