Oneida

Edwin A. JOHNSON d. in the village of Sauquoit, Town of Paris, Oneida County, NY, on 3 January 1896 at age 71 years 4 months 18 days, with dob thus calculated to be 17 August 1824. His death certificate gives his parents as Lewis and Phoebe JOHNSON and his place of birth as Vermont.

Census records (prob. more accurate) say he was born in Massachusetts. His parents, Lewis JOHNSON (1782-1853) and Phoebe Gross (1796-1872) are bur. in the Sauquoit Valley Cemetery. Siblings of Edwin A. Johnson (per census records) appear to have been Willard JOHNSON (b.c. 1823), Jane JOHNSON (b.c. 1839), Sarah JOHNSON (b.c. 1842), and Lewis JOHNSON (b.c. 1845).

Wife of Edwin A. JOHNSON was Betsy Huggins, dau. of Samuel and Mary Marinda (Tuttle) Huggins of Paris, Oneida County, NY. Her family lines can be traced to western Massachusetts and colonial New Haven.

Children of Edwin A. JOHNSON and Betsy Huggins (m. about 1850) were:

Olive Hoffman Ira, Alexander, Lyman, Benjamin F, Esther Genesee/Monroe, Oneida, Montgomery World Connect

Searching for the parents of:  Ira Johnson, born in Oneida County, NY about 1780-5 (at that time still Montgomery Co.)  and his wife, Sally  Sturgis, born ca 1787 (possibly either NY or CT).  Sally (Sarah?) might have been a widow, with a son Alexander E. (---) born about 1805 in New York when she married Ira Johnson.  Together, Sally and Ira Johnson had:  Lyman, born about 1812 and Benjamin F. born 25 March 1813 in the Town of Sweden.   Ira had a daughter Esther, named in his will but it is not known at this time who the Mother was; perhaps Ira was a widower when he married Sally Sturgis?  According to Landmarks of Monroe County, (P 114): Ira, the Father came to the town of Sweden in 1816. His will was dated 27 Feb 1816, probated 10 May 1816.  Alexander E. is my ancestor, but certainly interested in all family members of Ira Johnson....

  Hannah Oneida, Madison, Onondaga
I have read in a few places that my ancestor Hannah JOHNSON (1746-1830), wife of Thomas Winthrop LEWIS (1747-1831), was related to the JOHNSON family of Van Buren, Onondaga Co., NY.
I have seen no proof or reasoning for this statement.  Anybody have any suggestions or information?

Linda Mathew Elkanah, Elisha, Abigail, Reynolds, Stephen, John, Samuel Oneida Elkanah Johnson, son of Elisha and Mary (Greene) Johnson, was born ca. 1727 in Warwick, RI (later set off as Coventry). He married in 1758 Abigail Reynolds. By 1800 he was living in Deerfield, Oneida County, NY. He may have been the Elkanah Johnson living in Hoosick, Rensselaer County, in 1790. He had children Abigail (m. John? Sherman), Reynolds, Stephen, John (1768-1742), and Samuel (1775-1829). Abigail lived in Deerfield and the others in Lee, Oneida County.
William Sumner Kings, Oneida I am searching for information on William Sumner Johnson. William Sumner was born in Lunenburg, MA on 13 Aug 1806 and died in Bridgeport, CT in 1875. I know knowing of his parents or possible siblings. William Sumner was married on 17 Jun 1835 in I believe Brooklyn, NY to Ann Eliza Nichols (1813-1894) . According to an obituary of a son (George Huntington Nichols Johnson) of William Sumner, he came to Brooklyn from Oneida County, NY. Considering the dates I have noted above I have to assume that William Sumner could have been in Oneida County between 1806 to before 1835. Any information on William Sumner's likely parents and possible siblings would be appreciated. I have letters that William Sumner wrote to his wife in 1849 on his way to the 1849 California Gold Rush. I also have a photo of William Sumner.
