Dennis A. JOHNSON was born Jan. 24, 1819 in
Guilford, CT. On Mar. 19, 1847 he married Hester BATES in
Monticello, NY. They had 6 children, Sally, Charles B., Philo I.
Harvey, Seth A., and Helen H., all born in Sullivan Co., NY. Dennis
was killed during the Civil War in Fayetteville, NC. Most of the
children ended up moving to Tioga County, PA, although Hester and
Charles B. JOHNSON, along with Helen, stayed in the Sullivan County,
NY area. Charles married Blanche R. SCHOONMAKER in 1876, and they
had 2 children, Ethel and Alice M. Dennis' son, Seth Albert JOHNSON
subsequently married Alice M. SIMMONDS in 1885 in Niles Valley, PA.
They moved to Orange County, NY where Seth became a high
school principal at a school in Monroe/Harriman
NY. Alice was also a teacher there. This was during the
1920's and 30's.
