My
Johnson is Leonard Johnson. He was born in 1828 in Whitehall,
Washington County NY. He 1st married Sophia Kinner in 1849 in
Whitehall. They had one daughter Eva Sophia Johnson who was born in
1853 also in Whitehall. His wife died in 1854 and is buried in the
Woodcreek Kinner Cemetery in Whitehall. He next married Mary Jane
Kibbe probably by 1855. They later moved to Missouri where I find
them in 1860. He disappeared in Missouri around 1864. Went to work
one day and never returned. (Missouri + Civil War may account for
that)
I'm not sure who his parents are but suspect they are George and Alice Johnson who are always living next door to him. That would make him a brother of Joseph B. Johnson who I have proved is the son of George and Alice Johnson. There are a number of other Johnson's living in Washington County, and some across the border in Rutland Co. Vermont. My Johnson information - though it is disjointed at present, and notes I have collected will soon be available on my website which is at www.relativebliss.com . Interestingly, there are a number of Leonard Johnson's of various ages living in that part of New York/Vermont at that time, and I also suspect they are related. Now to connect the dots. I believe that William Johnson is connected too but have not found the link....... William Johnson - 1855 Washington County New York State Census. William Johnson is 44 years old and is a Farmer who has lived in Washington County for 44 years. He owns his land and it is worth $150.00. Also living with his is wife Catherine age 39 and born in PA, a male child Milo age 19 born in PA, a male child Albert age 17 who was born in PA; a female child Emma age 12 born in PA; a female child Catherine age 8 born in PA and Sarah a female age 3 born in Washington County. [This census says that his wife and the four oldest children had lived only 8 years in the county which leaves either an error in William's length of time in the county, or the possibility that the children are his step-children] |
