This site is dedicated to the research of the line of James Johnson, b. 1759, Louisa County, Virginia. He moved to Bedford County, VA as a youth. He grew up there near Lynchburg. The area he lived in then became Campbell County. He relocated to Wayne County on or about 1798/9. He and daughter Nancy were among the first settlers to receive land grants South of the Green River. He received Certificate No. 12; she received Number 13.
I found it necessary to research many of the Johnsons of the early years in an effort to determine which Johnsons of Wayne/Pulaski Counties were of my line . I have included many of the notes I have on all of those early Johnson pioneers in hope that someone may be able to find some of the missing links.
The Johnsons and others were attracted
to the early land grants available in Wayne County. Served by the
Cumberland River, we find them marrying, carrying on business and
other activities in Wayne, Pulaski , and nearby Whitley County. To make our
research more manageable, we are limiting our discussion to the families
and their descendants who settled in Wayne or Pulaski County not later than
1830.
