of "breast lung and heart trouble,rheumatism, piles, loss of hearing (partly) vericose veins, kidney trouble or back affection and resulting disability."

Affidavits in Support Of George Tracy's Pension Claims

James BERRY, Jr., of Wheeling, West Virginia
aged 26
"That he has known the claimant for twelve years and worked with him for two years, at Peter ERB's Livery Stable, in Wheeling, W.Va.
He has heard the claimant complain frequently of Rheumatism in arms and legs and of shortness of breath, and knows that he had often to quit work
for two or three weeks at a time on account of one or both of these ailments. He further states that about a year ago the claimant was
compelled to give up his place in the said Livery Stable owing to the increase in violence of the attacks of rheumatism and shortness of breath.
He also state that he is no manner related to the claimant and has no interest in this claim."

James B. MAXWELL, aged 45 years, of Wheeling states in connection with the above claim that "he has known the claimant for twenty years,and worked
with him at Erb's Livery Stable for 15 years. He has known him to complain of rheumatism and shortness of breath, and knows that he was
often compelled to quit work on account of these complaints, at one time being laid off for ten weeks on account of rheumatism.
He verily believes that the claimant is now physically unable to earn a living by reason of rheumatism and shortnes of breath and that
he could not earn a livelihood by manual labor. He has no interest in this claim and is no manner related to the claimant."

"That we are well acquainted with Elizabeth M. Tracy, and her late husband George W. Tracy, he died Sept. 11th, 1906,
his widow the said Elizbeth M. Tracy, has, no property, investments, bonds, notes, or insurance, or other means of support,
only her labor, dependent entirely on her labor, and she an old delicate woman. She has not remarried, nor was either of them ever
married only to each other, and they were never divorced, lived together until his death. He was never to our knowledge in the
military or naval service of the United States, only Battery "D" 1st West Va. Lgt Artillery. We know what we state to be true from the
fact we have known Elizabeth M. Tracy nee Coleman and her late husband George W. Tracy, since they were too young to marry,
lived in same city, and if they had of been divorced or married otherwise than above stated we would have known of it from our intimate
acquaintance with them both since they were very young."

Dr. J. J. OSBORN stated: "I attended George W. Tracy from Aug. 28 1906 to Sep. 11 1906. He died Sep. 11-1906.
His death was caused form sudden heart failure from fatty degeneration of the heart."

The County Clerk of Ohio County, West Virginia stated "I, Richard ROBERTSON...do certify that I have examined the Real and Personal property books for the year 1906 and failed to find anything
assessed in the name of George W. TRACY or Elizabeth M. TRACY, and I further certify that there is no death record."

"That we are intimately acquainted with the family of the late George W. TRACY, and we know his widow Elizabeth M. TRACY,
well, see her very often almost every week and she has not remarried since his death, we live in same city, not far apart,
and we know what we state to be true from long acquaintance and personal observation."

Elizabeth TRACY also wrote a letter to Commissioner of Pensions September 18, 1916 and stated:

"I am pensioned under above certificate number, because of service of the soldier named. I was not his wife during the civil war. I am past 69 years of age, having been born November 9, 1846, at Wheeling, West Virginia. I will be entitled to the increase of pension provided by the first section of Act of Sept. 8, 1916. Therefore I will be 70 years of age Nov. 9, 1916, prior to Dec. 4, 1916 when my next pension is due."


Her address in 1916 was 2120 Eoff Street, Wheeling, W.Va.


Elizabeth M. TRACY died died January 19, 1927.
