The Knights of Pythias held their annual picnic Saturday in Nesbitt's orchard, a short distance below town. Rev. Harry Scott of Clarington was the speaker of the day and was listened to by a large and attentive audience. The music was furnished by the New Martinsville band. The "fat ladies" race was won by Mrs. Ida Bowen of New Martinsville. The "sack race" by Ida Ratcliffe. The "three legged" race by Misses Lucile Griffith and Lillian Case of Parkersburg. The "running race" by Miss Lucile Griffith, and the "fat mans race" by John Nieman. The committee in charge expected to have a "grand march" but could not find enough young ladies willing to take part.

One of the most enjoyable social affairs that has been of late in Sardis, was a house picnic given Wednesday evening at the home of the Misses Lena and Clara Hess in honor of Ralph and Paul Goodwin, who leave shortly for their new home in California. Music and games were the chief diversions of the evening and the bountiful feast that has been prepared for refreshments could not have been surpassed, and to say that the Misses Hess were ideal hostesses would be putting it very mildly. All regret very much to lose the Goodwin boys, but the best wishes of all go with them to their new home. The reception by the high School alumni association of Sardis which was held Tuesday night was one of the most auspicious events ever held here. 52 guests were in attendance. Mrs. Alice Griffith spent a part of last week in Wheeling, West Virginia where she was called by the death of her aunt Miss Louise Wiley. Miss Wiley will be remembered by many people here having been engaged for two years as clerk in the Worthington Postoffice, several years ago.
