Dean, Charles (Chuck)


Killed on Job At Steel Mill

A 28-year-old resident of Fairview Rt. 2 was crushed to death by a load of steel yesterday afternoon while at work on a construction job for the Jones and Laughlin Steel Co., in Aliquippa, Pa.

The victim, Charles (Chuck) Dean, a native of Blacksville, was born March 19, 1928. He was a son of Stanley Dean and the late Mary Dean.

Surviving besides his father are his wife, Jean Haught Dean; two sons, Kevin and Aaron; one sister, Mary Beele Dean of Fairmont; four brothers, Gene of Witchita Falls, Tex., Irving of Haddonfield, N.J., Robert of Lomita, Calif., and Fornie of Daybrook.

Dean was a nephew of Mrs. Frances Scott of Morgantown and E. W. Richardson of Blacksville. His body is being returned to the Curry Funeral Home in Fairview. Arrangements for services are incomplete.

Fornie E. Dean, 58, Avon Park, Fla., formerly of Blacksville, Died Sunday at Walker Memorial Hospital in Avon Park.

He was born Nov. 3, 1936, in Blacksville, a son of the late Stanley and Mary Richardson Dean.

He was a foreman for the Schneider Construction Company. he had previously been employed as a deputy in Monongalia County.

He is survived by three sons, Randy Dean of Pentress, Bill Dean of Blacksville and Fornie Dean of Littleton: two daughters, Shelly Henkins, Pentress, Mary Dean, Blacksville; three brothers, Eugene Dean, Scotland, Tx., Irving Dean, Raleigh, N.C., Robert Dean, Harbor City, Calif., one sister, Mary Belle Orndoff, Mt. Morris, Pa; four grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Owen Funeral Home in Blacksville from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. henry Metheny officiating. Burial will be in the blacksville Cemetery.

Dean, Irving Richardson


Irving Richardson Dean, 89, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, after a brief illness. He was a resident of Waverly, Ohio, and is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josephine Blue Dean.

He was a longtime resident of Raleigh, NC.

He was born Dec. 24, 1918, a son of the late Stanley and Mary Richardson Dean of Blacks ville.

Mr. Dean was a World War II veteran, serving over four years in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He attended Muhlenberg College on the GI Bill, and then coached football at Syracuse University before entering the FBI as a Special Agent. He retired from the FBI in 1976.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his sons, Richard Dean and his wife Ruth Ann, of Waverly, Ohio, and Robert Dean and his wife, Diane, of Foster City, CA; seven grandchildren and four great- children.

The family will receive friends at Owen-Neely Funeral Home, Blacks ville, from 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, until the 11 a.m. funeral services with his son, Rev. Richard Dean, officiating. Burial will follow in Blacks ville Cemetery immediately after the funeral service.

Dean, Luzetta Minor



Mrs. Luzetta Minor Dean aged almost 76, wife of Elysses Grant Dean, died at 11:40 pm Wednesday, October 5, at her home at Blacksville, W.Va. following an extended illnes due to ailments incident to her advanced years. A daughter of the late Jacob Minor and Katherine Thralls Minor, she was born November 10, 1862, in Monongalia County, W.Va. near Blacksville, and spent all her life in that community. She was a lifelong member of the Blacksville Baptist Church. Mrs. Dean was married December 20, 1885 to Ulysses Grant Dean, who survives with 6 children, namely;

She also leaves one brother, Isaac Miller of Blacksville, WVa. Mrs. Dean came from a pioneer family of the Blacksville community, her grandparents having come from England.

Mrs. Mary Dean, 51, of Blacksville, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday at Monongalia General Hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of Monongalia County.

Surviving are her father, Eugene Richardson of Blacksville; her husband, Stanley Dean of Blacksville; six children, Eugene Dean of Wichita Falls, Tex., Irving Dean, student at Murlenberg College, Allentown, Pa., Robert Dean of Wilmington, Calif., Charles Dean of Galveston, Tex., Forney Dean at home, and Miss Mary Belle Dean at home; four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Joiner of Salem, Mrs. Arlie Moore of Fairview, Mrs. John Cotteral of Henrietta, Okla., and Mrs. Frances Scott of Morgantown, four brothers, E.H. Richardson of Biggers, Ark., S.W. Richardson of Stillwater, Okla., E.W. Richardson of Blacksville, and Allen Richardson of Port Arthur, Texas, and four grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at Dering Funeral Home.

Stanley O. Dean, retired field worker

Stanley O. Dean, 94, of Mt. Morris, Pa., died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1981.

He was born Feb. 21, 1887, in Blacksville, the son of the late Grant and Luzetta Minor Dean. He was a retired oil and gas field worker.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie Martin Dean; four sons, Eugene Dean of Scotland, Texas, Irving Dean of Raleigh, N.C., robert Dean of Harbor City, Calif., and Fornie Dean of Littleon, one daughter, Mary Bell Orndoff of Mt. Morris, Pa., one sister, Mrs. cecile Renner of Cleveland, Ohio 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Richardson Dean, four sisters and two sons.

Friends may call at the Owen Funeral home in Blacksville from 7-9 p.m. Monday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, the time of the service in the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Fox officiating. Burial will flows in the Blacksville Cemetery.

Dieter, Mrs. Louisa



Mrs. Louisa Dieter, aged seventy four years, died at her home in Woodsfield on last Monday evening. Her death was not unexpected as she had been ailing for some time, and her advanced years gave little encouragement for the hope of recovery. She was a native of Germany, having been born in the State of Reimpfalz Baiern. Funeral services were held at the German Evangelical Church by the pastor, Rev. Egger, on Wednesday at 3 p.m., and were followed by interment in the Woodsfield Cemetery. Mrs. Dieter was the mother of Sheriff Sulsberger and Andrew Dieter.

Rites Are Planned for Capt. Doyle
Funeral Services Will Be Held Tuesday Afternoon; Burial in Cedar Hill.
Funeral services for Capt. Robert Emmett Doyle, of the Eight Precinct, who died Thursday afternoon at the Mount Pleasant Congregational Church, with burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Moses R. Lovell, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Six members of the Police Department will be selected to act as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers will be named by the Doyle family. As many members of the Eighth Precinct as can be relieved from duty will attend the funeral. Flags at all precincts are to remain at half-mast for 30 days.
It was at first planned to hold the funeral on Monday, but a delay has been decided on so that relatives living in California may reach here in time for the final rites. Inspector Louis J. Stoll is in charge of the arrangements for the funeral, and further details are to be announced. Capt. Doyle was one of the veteran commanders of the Washington police force. He was attacked with heart failure while in a lunchroom.
