Kentucky Confederate
Pension
Applications
Note: These are not my Bakers and
I have no more information on
them.
JESSE L. BAKER was born in Owen County,Kentucky Feb.
13, 1847, son of Josiah Baker and Lucy
Moore.
He lived in Wheatly, Ky. when he filed Confederate
pension application No. 32 on 17 July
1912.
He had enlisted in Co. B, 4th Kentucky Cavalry in
Owen County in the spring of
1864.
He was discharged March 1, 1865 in Mt.
Sterling,Ky.
Jesse died in Owen Co. on 2 June 1936 at age 89.He
was listed assingle.
His sole beneficiary was Mrs. Kate Smith Webster of
Worthville,Kentucky.
A Mrs. Vallandingham is also mentioned but
relationship not given.
A Mr. T.M. Minish of Carrolltonis mentioned in a
letter as a relative (received funeral expenses) but relationship not given. He
was the undertaker so may have not been related as the pension board
thought.
RAYBORN BAKER served in Company A, 8th
KentuckyCavalry.
He
was born Feb. 1, 1842 in Madison
Co.,Ky.
(Note: He also states that he has lived in Fayette Co.“all of his
life”.)
Enlisted Sept.
1862.
He
was captured in Ohio on19 July 1863 and imprisoned at Camp Douglas, Illinois,
exchanged at Richmond 7 Mar. 1865, discharged Mt.Sterling, Ky. May
1865.
He
applied for a Confederate pension while living at 716W. Maxwell Street,
Lexington, Ky.
Application No. 33, filed 19
June,1912.
His wife had died in 1887. He was dependent on his two
sons.
Witness affidavit from Samuel C. Bean stating that he has known
Rayborn for forty or fifty
years.
Judge J. Peroy Scott states that he knows Rayborn personally and will vouch for him.
Witness affidavit from Judge J. D. Hunt
stating that he was Sergeant Major of Co. A of the 8th Ky. Cavalry
and that Rayborn was a member of that
unit.
Note: No names of family members
are given.
ROBERT BAKER was born between 1840 and 1844 in Queens
County, New York.
(He wasn't certain of the date.) He went to Kentucky
in 1859.
He filed for a Confederate pension at age seventy in
Erlanger, Kenton County, Ky., on 6 Dec.
1912

2335.
He had enlisted in Company F, 4th Kentucky Cavalry in
1862.
He was discharged at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on 1 May,
1865.
When asked if he were married or single he replied,"
Married, every bit of it".
His attorney, O. M. Rogers, who was questioning
him called him "Uncle Bob".
He stated that his wife, Susan, owned 12 acres of
land and he owned none.
On his initial application he had stated that he
owned 8 acres.
