William I. Fisher, a pioneer of Vernon County,

December 3, 1915, after a long illness, culminating in heart disease. Mr.

was later transferred to Company G, Second Missouri Cavalry, commanded by
General Joe Shelby. John N. Edwards, in his history of that conflict,
makes honorable mention of Mr. Fisher’s bravery. The body was interred at
Deepwood Cemetery, Nevada. The Confederate veterans took charge of the
services. They marched in a body to the open grave, where with bowed heads
and sad hearts they laid their beloved comrade to rest with the flag of
the Confederacy draped about him. He was twice elected sheriff of Vernon
County. He is survived by four children and also the wife of his second
