3.  JAMES A.3 JACKSON (SAMUEL2, DAVID1) was born 1809 in York County, South Carolina, and died Bet. 1880 - 1886 in probably Jackson County, Missouri.  He married (1) MELINDA F. BURNS April 20, 1840 in Rush County, Indiana, daughter of NICHOLAS BURNS and SUSAN.  She was born 1820 in Kentucky, and died October 06, 1859 in Page County, Iowa (aged 37 years).  He married (2) CATHERINE PALMER July 28, 1860 in Clarinda, Page County, Iowa, daughter of WILLIAM PALMER and HANNAH ROSE.  She was born Abt. 1824 in England, and died October 28, 1886 in Clarinda, Page County, Iowa.

Notes for CATHERINE PALMER:

Catherine was married first to John Morris who died August 10, 1858 in Page County, Iowa.

They had daughters, Katherine, Mary and Emma.

Katherine was living with George and Eliza Baker in 1880.

After the death of James A. Jackson, Catherine apparently went back to Page County.

October 12, 1864 - Dog Soldiers and Sioux warriors attack coach on Overland Trail west of Plum Creek Station, NE. Coach guard and passenger wounded, two Indians killed.

 

October 12, 1864 - 40 troops from Nebraska 1st Regiment Veteran Volunteers fight 60 Dog Soldiers and Sioux warriors near Plum Creek, NE.  Two soldiers and three Indians killed. One of those soldiers killed was Lewis C. Jackson. His brother, Martin Jackson was in the same unit at the time.
