Notes for
JOHN
BAKER
II:
JOHN BAKER,
born ca 1767, was in Pendleton Co., Kentucky as early as 1795.
According
to tax and census records, he probably had four sons and four
daughters by his first wife, and 3 to 5 sons by his second wife.
John's farm was on Harris Creek, near the Licking River, near the
Campbell Co. line, near the Bonar and Castator families. According to tax
records, John lived in Pendleton from 1795 thru 1812, and then moved to Campbell
Co.
John Jr. had Black people in his household. They may have been slaves, or employees. Since his brother, Samuel , was very strongly against slavery, this may be the reason there seems to have been little contact between John Jr. and his family.
If John Jr.'s first marriage was in Kentucky, those Black people may
have been the property of his first wife.
