UNION SOLDIERS BURIED AT CURRAN (STONE COUNTY), MISSOURI
1862-1865

Thursday, September 14, 1865 Missouri Patriot

"We have been furnished by Capt. R. B. Owen, A.Q.M. at this place, with the following list of deceased Federal soldiers at Curran, in Stone county:"

NAMECOMPANYREGIMENT
Marion Steward Co I 1st Ark Cav
J. E. Cole Co I 11th Kan Vols
Jacob Mitchell Co G 11th Kan Vols
Joseph Laughlin Co D 11th Kan Vols
A. A. Tilton Co G 11th Kan Vols
"There are six others buried at the same place, but the marks on the head boards are so obliterated that their names cannot be deciphered."

Exhumation of these soldiers and reburial at the National Cemetery in Springfield, Mo is recorded in the interment log now held in the library archives at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield.

The table below is from a transcription of that log by John and Mary Ellen Gifford. Numbers listed are the "running numbers" in the interment log. Note the log records the location as "Crane Creek, Stone County, Mo on Smith, Mitchell and Gardner farms." Of these 16 exhumations, the last 10 (233-242) are probably from the location known as "Curran" in the 1865 Patriot article.
