WEBSTER, HUDSON and associated families
Introduction
On these pages I have combined the family trees of William Donald WEBSTER and Florence HUDSON (my grandparents). Surnames include AGAR, BARBER, CORDUEX, GIBLETT, HARLEY, HUDSON, MATTHEW, MUSTELL, PEACOCK, PORTER and WEBSTER. Most of these people lived in England (London, Middlesex, Surrey, Yorkshire, Durham, Somerset, Derbyshire, Kent and elsewhere) or Australia (mainly Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria). Our CAMPBELL family came from Argyllshire, Scotland. Our PORTER ancestor moved from Scotland to England in the 1700s, and our WEBSTER family is thought to have done so too.
Details of living people have been suppressed to protect their privacy. This is a 'work in progress', and there will be some errors. Many entries are based on anecdotal evidence and need to be verified. Additions and corrections are welcome, but please explain *from what sources* your facts were obtained (with archives reference numbers if known). Only selected details are shown here, but I will gradually add more facts and source references, and more names.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed (especially Michael FLYNN, Anne and Michael REECE, Rodney CARR, Yvonne THOMAS and Joe HUDSON, who shared irreplaceable original records and/or did a significant amount of archival research).
You may use this information for your own private research, PROVIDED THAT you quote all source references and mention 'Judy Webster's Website'. Copyright laws prohibit you from reproducing this material in any format (printed or electronic, on the Internet or elsewhere) without permission.
As Elizabeth Shown Mills says in "Evidence! Citation and Analysis for the Family Historian" (Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 1997), "Genealogical research - well done - requires a critical approach to knowledge. Answers to questions can seldom be 'looked up' in books. Even when we find needed answers there, they often contradict each other. If no conflict is apparent, we are still expected to verify those published facts."
Many 'new' relatives have found me via my family tree at Rootsweb's WorldConnect and my entries at Curious Fox (a town/village-based message system for Britain). These are good places to advertise your research interests - but some other Web sites will sell your data or charge people to view it. Before submitting data to any site, check its privacy policy and terms/conditions.
After you've looked at my family tree, please visit my main Web site, which has advice on sources and techniques for family history research, and over 40,000 names from Archives and elsewhere. You can search that entire site by entering a name or other keyword in its Google search boxes.
To leave messages that can be seen by others researching this family (eg, 'I would like a photo of X' or 'I am willing to share the cost of a death certificate for Y'), use the Guestbook. To contact me privately, see below.
