James Hargraves/Hargreaves/Hargroves
The many
James Hargreaves
of the Chapel of Colne Parish

There are no Hargroves & only a few Hargraves in this parish
This web page is to show that there are so many James Hargreaves in this parish (and you can assume equally as many in the neighboring parishes of Lancashire & Yorkshire) that it is unlikely to be descended from the James Hargreaves that invented the spinning jenny.

On page viii in source 1 above, it says these books (source 1, 2, 3, & 4 above) should "be ordered direct from the publisher." Page iv of source 1 says "...Supporting the publication of the above and available from the same address (as given opposite)". Page i of source 1 says:

Colne Register Transcriptions, 16 Honister Road,
Burnley, Lacashhire.
BB10 2PX
One of the books cited on page iv of source 1 was "Another look at Colne". The title page of that book says: "Published by Colne Register Transcriptions", so that identifies the above address as the publisher's address. I hope the publisher has not changed since 1975 when source 1 was published.

The prices of the books that is listed on page iv of source 1 are:
source
number
pub.
year
type years price
2 1969 Baptisms & Burials 1774-1789 = 16 years £1.50 + 25p by post
4 1970 Baptisms 1790-1812 = 23 years £2.50 + 30p by post
3 1968 Burials 1790-1812 = 23 years £2.50 + 30p by post
1 1975 Marriages 1654-1754 = 101 years £2.50
Actually only the 1st 3 books above are listed on page iv. In May 1982 while in Colne, the 1st 3 books above cost the same as shown & I paid for the marriages book the cost as shown above.
