Joseph CRENSHAW; born in Virginia; died about 1824 in Maury County, Tennessee; married by 1811 to Mildred SIMS; died 1850 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi (Will proved Aug. 1850); daughter of William SIMS who moved from Hanover County, Virginia to Maury County, Tennessee in 1811.

children were:
1. Martha Emaline CRENSHAW, married 11 August 1830 Maury County, Tennessee to William E. CROSTHWAITE.
2. John CRENSHAW, died before 1850 Yalobusha County, Mississippi; married 21 January 1828 Maury County, Tennessee to Malinda KINDLE; a son was William Joseph CRENSHAW, born ca 1833 Tennessee.

Middle Tennessee Crossroads, 1982 (Vol. 2) (DPL 929.3768M 927): Filed May 1818-Aug. 1820. 1808, Joseph CRENSHAW came from Virginia to work on the house being built by Kemp HOLLAND. Joseph lived on Lick Creek. Joseph's brothers, James and John, and Bill Sherwood MILLS came from Virginia and lived in the neighborhood. Joseph and John left, and James and MILLS finished the work. Joseph and James were both summoned to court in Williamson County in 1816 and 1817 but could not be found. Joseph and James were both summoned to court in Maury County, Tennessee in 1818. James stated he was living in Madison County, Mississippi (Territory) since ca 1815.

Vol. 5: 4 May 1810. Joseph CRENSHAW says on 28 March 1810, Thrasher McCOLLUM obtained a judgment against him for $24 and the cost of the suit. He said judgment was unjustly rendered and that he is not indebted to said Thrasher McCOLLUM.

James CRENSHAW; born in Virginia; died between 1828-40; married on 8 April 1811 in Williamson County, Tennessee to Eliza WINSLOW; died before 1828; daughter of Joseph WINSLOW, died Aug./Sept. 1834 Hardin County, Tennessee, will dated 1 April 1828, had land in Hardin County, Tennessee and Limestone County, Alabama.

children were:
1. Elizabeth CRENSHAW
2. Jackson CRENSHAW, minor in 1840.

James CRENSHAW married a second time soon after Elizabeth WINSLOW, his first wife, had died. He did not live long after this second marriage.

Vol. 5: James GRAY, cabinetmaker, on 25 June 1819, stole 2 bank notes of $5 each, both issued by the Nashville Bank and payable one at Murfreesboro and the other at Shelbyville -- the property of James J. CRENSHAW.
Vol. 5: James CRENSHAW made oath that his house was broken into on the night of 25 June 1819 and about $50 taken. He has good reason to believe James GRAY, house carpenter, was the guilty person.

Oliver CRENSHAW; died before 1842; married on 11 July 1814 in Williamson County, Tennessee to Elizabeth (RUTHERFORD) CRAWFORD.

Widow and sons moved to Texas.
