OF SUFFIELD. 

South side of Stony Brook, going aslant across ye front of James Haywards Lott, marking severall trees on the south side of the way, till it comes to ye top of ye Hill, against ye Iron Works; and slanting down ye Hill, to ye turn of ye River (or Stoney Brook) where it turns off of ye Hill, across a little hollow, onto ye fair Intervall Land in said Hawards Lott; and over a little Brook, where ye path used to pass over it, and so along between the Hill, and Stoney Brook, where it is best for the way, till it comes to James Haywards House.* And then turning up ye Hill, on ye backside of said Haywards House, through said Haywards Land, and ye rest of ye allotments, till it comes to, and passes over Stoney Brook, a little below ye Cornmill.¥ From thence through ye lots, to ye Highway, or passage to ye Old Mill, entering into it, a little West of ye Wett Land, on ye west end of ye Long Hill. Said way is laid out for ye most part of ye way, where ye path now goes. There are trees marked on both sides of this way, facing ye way, and said way to be a rod, and half wide, from Said trees so marked.

YE COPPER OAR TO BE LEASED OUT.

  lst. At a Legal Town Meeting October ye 17th, 1712: Clerk, John Kent, was chosen Moderator for this Meeting, by a clear vote.
 2ndly. It was agreed, and voted: to lease out to ye Honed Collonll Partridg of Newbery, all ye Copper Mines within our Township; within ye undivided Land, for Eight years, upon such terms as ye Town shall agree upon,
  3dly. It was agreed, and voted: to leave it with the Select men to agree with, and lease oat to ye Honed Collonell Partridge of Newbery; all ye Copper Mines that are, or may be discovered within our Township, in ye undivided Land, to improve for Eight years from ye Date hereof.

  ¥¥At a legall Town Meeting October ye 22nd, 1712: By a clear vote: Deacon John Hanchet was chosen Moderator, to carry on ye affairs of this Meeting.
  2ndly. It was agreed, and voted: to Lease out to ye Honed Collonell William Partridge of Newberry; all ye Mine or Mines within our Township, in ye undivided Land for forty years from ye Date hereof; Iron mine only accepted.
  3dly. It was agreed and voted: to leave it with a Committee of these men to Lease out Said Mines.

*James Hayward (or Howard) and Mary, daughter of Edward Allyn, were published January 6th, and married January 25, 1704/5. Children were, Mary, born April 23, 1706; Joseph, born October 1, 1707; Ebenezer, born January 25, 1710; James, born, December 7, 1712.
¥ This Mill was built by Maj. Pynchon, in accordance with his answer to the town in 1687. (See note on preceding page.)
¥¥ No lease of the Copper Mines, under these votes, appears; to have been consummated. See Sept. 9, 1713, p. 183.
