TOWN ACTS.
SCHOLL TO BE KEPT IN HIGH STREET.
4th. It was agreed, and voted: That there shall be one good School constantly kept
in High street, and that there shall none go to this School, untill they are six years of age, nor then neither,
except they be so farr Entred in learning, as to spell Indifferantly in ye primer.
5thly. By a clear vote, granted to James Younglove, five acres of land at
ye turn Of Stony Brook, on the north side of it, if it be free; if not in some other place
where it is free.
6th. The Town by a clear vote Granted to Mr. Ebenezer Devotion Twenty
acres of Land.
7th. It was agreed, voted: by a Clear vote, that the Committee chosen to lay
out ye Towns Commons, shall finish their work by the middle of Aprill next.
8th. The Town by a Clear vote, granted, and ordered, That there shall be
a * Highway, eight rods wide, on ye north South side Of Stony Brook, by Matthew Copleys,
on ye north of his lot: and so to Taintors Hill, and as far further as shall be
thought needfull.
9th. It was agreed and voted, That all such as are present
Inhabitants,
and Proprietors that have not had any Land given them by the Town, nor their
predesessours, amounting to five acres apiece for such of their children as are proprietors, and bear Charge in ye
Town or such as have Land upon record more than they have had Grant of, shall have five acres
apiece.
10thly. At this Meeting, Joseph Fuller craved liberty of ye Town to lay
down his 25 acres of Second Division lying by Springfield Bounds on ye East side
of Fylers Brook, and to take it up elsewhere ingaging to be at all neccesary charge, for making sure to ye
Town ye Land which he lays down: which proposall ye Town by a clear vote
granted.
11thly- Granted to Samuel Roe, five acres of Land.
12thly. Granted to Josiah Kent, five acres of land.
13thly. Lastly it was agreed, voted by a clear vote: That every person
accounted, and excepted as free and Legall Voters, shall attend all Town
meetings,
being dully warned thereuto on ye penalty of 2s & 6d in Town pay, for every neglect
(of attendance,) except ye person neglecting, can give a satisfying reason of
his absence at that time, to ye Select men, or ye major part of them; who are by
this act impowered to accept their reasonable excuses, and on ye non acceptance;
to prosecute, and recover such fines in a way of Law. And ye Town Clerk
shall keep a List of all such voters names, and call them all Distinctly at the
beginning of every such meeting, and every person not answering when called;
shall pay 6d for not seasonablie attending according to appointment; to be
recovered in mannner aforesaid.
¥ Att a Meeting of the Inhabitants of Suffield Aprill the 2nd,
1713: The Town by a full, and Clear vote, Gave unto the severall persons hereafter named,
Land as followeth, viz:
To Edmund Marshall ten acres and a. half.
To Samuel Hall, ten acres and an half.

¥ The grants of land made at this and the preceding meeting were annulled by an
act of the County Court, Jan'y, 1716.
