Some Descendants of William Walters

My husband's third great grandmother, Rebecca Walters Thomas was a mystery for some time. The Walters have proved to be a challenge, in part because they lived among families named Waters and Waller and these names are often confused, even today.

And, as was the habit of so many of our ancestors, they persisted in using the same given names over and over. There are also numerous instances of impossible dates and locations to be found on the Internet in various family files. Conflicts and inaccuracies abound. In fact a very wrong William Watters in Scotland was identified as the same man, only to discover later that he never left Scotland and the wife ascribed to him in Scotland, died there and is buried in a churchyard along with several of the children formerly thought to have come to the colonies. Since this very wrong connection appears in print, it is likely to never go away - but the man in Scotland is a very different man.

This is what I have found to be the most reasonable solutions, based on actual records rather than the many wrong Internet versions.
