MANNIX RESEARCH

My search for Mannix ancestors has led me to numerous places.
As I have and will continue to gather information I have decided to put it here so others might benefit.
The displaying however is as I find it
Apart from my own Mannix family detailed here, I have no extra information on the contents of this page. Where possible I have given the source, if it's omitted then my apologies, I have lost it or I gathered it before I realised the significance of stating it.

If you would like a link to your MANNIX research names I will be pleased to display them. Send the details by email to Kaye

Add MANNIX Data to these pages, sent the details to Kaye

Our TIMOTHY MANNIX, born in 1828/29 in Tipperary Ireland, was transported to Tasmania (then Van Diemans Land) in 1849 in the barque Pestonjee Bomanjee for 7 years for stealing half a sheep!.
He married Mary Ann Burnie (free settler) in 1854, and whether it was his or her idea, they dropped one N in Mannix and we have been Manix ever since. Timothy died at East Devonport (then Port Frederick) Tasmania on 15 May 1898. His mother was Mary and his two brothers Michael and Daniel were listed on his convict record.
Timothy called his eldest son (my GGreatgrandfather ) Alexander Thomas, who in turn called his eldest son (my Grandfather ) Alexander Thomas) who in turn called his eldest son (my father) Errol Alexander, so one might presume that Timothy's father might have been called Alexander or Thomas. (I have researched Birth/ Baptism records in County Cork for five Timothy's and have eliminated three. The others state Birth/Baptism 7/6/1830, Timothy, father Jerry Mannix, mother Mary Sullivan, sponsors Daniel Sullivan & Ellen McAuliffe, the second states Birth/Baptism 24/12/1829, Timothy, father Timothy Mannix, mother Mary Conway, sponsors Daniel Mannix & Elizabeth Mannix. There are no Alexanders, I have seen the family tree for Archbishop Mannix, and our branch is not directly related, if at all.
Please contact Carolyn & Sue if you have any information on this family

As with all research you should check the original source as I take no responsibilty for mistakes made. Kaye
