DELEON, Bernard Leo - 64, Dawn Street, Halifax,
died March 24, 1994, at home. Born in Beechville, he was a son of the late
Albert David and Laura Mae (Hamilton) Deleon. He was employed with the
Department of National Defence, CFB Halifax, C.E. Willow Park, where he
received a commendation from the base commander. He was a member of the
Beechville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Marion
Higgins, Beechville; two sons, Lloyd, Halifax; Bernard (Leo), Toronto;
three daughters, Brenda, Montreal; Frances, Marion, both of Halifax; sister,
Ruby (Mrs. George Jarvis), Beechville; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Albert, Connolly, Alfred, Reginald;
five sisters, Stella, Adeline, Laura (Winnifred), Gracie, Elsie. Visitation
will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the J. Albert Walker Funeral
Home, Lakeside. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Beechville Baptist Church,
Rev. Dr. W.P. Clayton officiating. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Beechville Baptist
Church.
DeLEON, Marion Laura -
66, Beechville, died December
8, 1998, in Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Austin
and Laura (Munroe) Higgins. She was a member of Beechville Baptist Church.
Surviving are sons, Lloyd, Beechville; Leo, Toronto; daughters, Frances
DeLeon, Halifax; Marion (Mrs. Keith Tasco), Cold Lake, Alta.; brother,
Donald, Vancouver; sisters, Muriel (Mrs. Ozzie Wyse), Beechville; Janet
(Mrs. Charles Addashetta), Toronto; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard; brother, Harold. Cremation
has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Halifax.
Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, in Beechville Baptist Church, Rev.
Dr. W. P. Clayton officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Donations
to Beechville Baptist Church.

County, died February 18, 1993, in Halifax Infirmary. Born in Beechville,
he was a son of the late Albert and Laura (Hamilton) DeLeon. He was formerly
employed with William McFartridge Roofing and Tasco Sheet Metal and was
a member of Beechville Baptist Church. He is survived by a son, David;
brother, Bernard, Halifax; sister, Ruby Jarvis, Beechville; two grandchildren;
many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Kathleen
Barton; son, Richard; three brothers, Alfred, Reginald, Connolly; five
sisters, Stella Drummond, Adeline, Laura (Winnie), Gracie Young, Elsie.
The body is in the J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Lakeside, visiting 2-4,
7-9 p.m. today and Sunday. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Beechville
Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. W.P. Clayton officiating. Spring burial will be

FLETCHER, Annie Catherine -
80, Gottingen Street,
Halifax, formerly of Beechville, Halifax Co. died March 30, 1995, at home.
Born in Beechville, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Georgina
(Grosse) Munroe. She was a member of Beechville United Baptist Church and
the ladies auxiliary for a number of years. She was a foster parent to
many children. Surviving are sons, Ellsworth, Royce, Halifax; Dougie, Montreal;
Jonathon, Hamilton, Ont.; daughters, Sandra, Helen, Marlene, Belinda, Halifax;
Sherice, Hamilton; 48 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; daughters, Kathleen, Rosie,
Mae; a number of sisters and brothers. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m Saturday
and Sunday in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Lakeside. Funeral 2 p.m. Monday
in Beechville United Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. W.P. Clayton officiating.
Burial in church cemetery. Reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu

HAMILTON-HILL, Tyler James -
4, Beechville, died
September 2, 1997, in the IWK-Grace Health Centre, Halifax. Born in Sudbury,
Ont., he was a son of Graham Hill and Tammy Hamilton, Beechville. Tyler
was loved by everyone he touched from age 0 to 99. He loved anything sweet
and he travelled door to door sharing his love while seeking pop, cookies
and candy. Thank God for our memories of Tyler. He is gone but he will
remain with us always. He is survived by brother, Brandon, at home; maternal
grandmother, Helen Kerr, Sudbury, Ont.; maternal grandfather, Ken Hamilton,
Beechville; paternal grandparents, Ken and Anne Hill, Timberlea; maternal
great-grandfather, Deacon Reginald Hamilton, Beechville; maternal great-grandmother,
Mrs. Lola Hill, Dartmouth; paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Mary Zaes,
Montreal; many aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by maternal great-grandmother, Eulah Hamilton; maternal
great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chartier; paternal great-grandfather,
William Hill. Visitation will be in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Lakeside,
today from 7-9 p.m. and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral service will be held
Saturday, September 6, at 2 p.m. in Beechville Baptist Church, Rev. Dr.
W.P. Clayton officiating. Burial in Beechville Baptist Church Cemetery.

HAMILTON, Dr. Marie Nita -
81, Halifax, for- merly
of Beechville, Halifax County, died November 10, 1993, in Victoria General
Hospital. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Hattie (Kellum)
Waldron and William Waldron. She was a respected educator and taught in
schools throughout Halifax County including North Preston, Hammonds Plains,
Beechville and Cherry Brook. While working in those communities, she not
only taught children but freely offered her assistance to adults who sought
her help. Her life was full of accomplishments and her dedication and community
work had been recognized provincially and nationally. She was awarded the
Queens Jubilee Medal in 1977 and the Persons Award in 1983 at a ceremony
held at Government House in Ottawa. In 1985, she was awarded the doctor
of humane letters degree by Mount Saint Vincent University in recognition
of her years of service to her community and society. She was one of several
Nova Scotian women featured in the award winning 1989 National Film Board
Docu- mentary Black Mother Black Daughter. She founded the preschool program
at Veith House and was active in many organizations dedicated to early
childhood education until the time of her death. She was clerk of the Beechville
Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Beechville Ladies Auxiliary
and Womens Institute of the African United Baptist Association. She is
survived by three daughters, Ada Thompson, Sylvia Hamilton, both of Halifax;
Janet (Mrs. Wayne Drumond), Dartmouth; three sons, Gerald, Kingston; Randolph,
Toronto; Wayn, Halifax; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She
was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Mac; sister, Gladys Johnston. Visitation
will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Saturday in Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax,
where a Beechville Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary service will be held.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Beechville Baptist Church, Rev. Willard
Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Donations may

HAMILTON, Deacon Reginald - Senior Deacon Reginald
- 88, Beechville, passed away September 18, 2000, at the home of his daughter,
Ardith and son-in-law, Councilor Graham Downey, surrounded by family and
loved ones, singing and reciting his favorite hymns and scriptures. Born
in Beechville, he was a son of the late Gilbert and Ida (Grosse) Hamilton.
He was employed with Mardo Construction and later with Twin City Dairies,
retiring in 1977. He was a descendant of the original settlers of the Beechville
community. His home is a historic museum of pictures. He was a member and
senior Deacon of the Beechville United Baptist Church, and was a member
of the Men's Brotherhood. He was a member of the Equity Lodge 106. Due
to his dedication and strong legacy, he was instrumental in the planning,
construction and onsite building of the Beechville United Baptist Church.
He looked forward to Sunday church services, the fellowship and Sunday
dinner he prepared at his home with family and friends. Reggie and Dr.
W. P. Oliver attended many of the churches in the African United Baptist
Association.
Church was truly his second home. He was a member of
the Beechville Senior Citizens Group. He was the oldest member of the Beechville
Rockets Bowling League. He received various awards from church and community.
He loved all sports, especially hockey and baseball. He is survived by
daughters, Ardith and her husband Graham Downey, Halifax; Sheila and her
husband Reginald Kelsie; Germaine "Kandi" Howe, both of Beechville; sons,
Leonard and his wife Beverley, Sudbury Ont; Michael Beals, Halifax; sister,
Hazel Robinson, Calgary; brother-in-law, Cecil "Tiny" Johnson, Sudbury,
Ont; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eulah May (Johnson) Hamilton;
sons, Norman "Junior", Kenneth, Clarence; brothers, Arthur, Gilbert, Gerald;
sisters, Laura DeLeon, Bertha Black, Eva Johnson, Adelaine Hamilton, Ida
MacDonald, Ella Tasco, Lena Hamilton, Gertie Hamilton; son-in law, Rubin
Howe; grandson, Darrell; great- grandson, Tyler; stepson, Bradford Young.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 p.m. Thursday in J. Albert Walker
Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax. The body will be transferred
to the Beechville United Baptist Church for visitation on Thursday evening
from 7-9 p.m. A Masonic service will be held in the funeral home today
at
7:30 p.m., conducted by Equity Lodge 106. A Brotherhood
and Ladies Auxiliary service will be held Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in
the Beechville United Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held Friday
2 p.m. in the Beechville United Baptist Church, Rev Tracey Grosse officiating,
assisted by the Clergy of AUBA. Burial to follow in the Beechville United
Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Beechville United
Baptist Church, for a memorial pew in memory of uncle, Reggie and
aunt, Eulah.
LOPPIE, George Sydney -
92, Halifax, died March
11, 1993, in the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Beechville, Halifax County,
he was a son of the late Sunny and Liza (Grouse) Loppie. Upon retirement
from City of Halifax, he worked at Cornwallis Street Baptist Church, where
he was a member and honorary usher. He was a former member of Wilbur Force
Lodge and member of Victorian Order of Oddfellows. He is survived by his
wife, the former Cecilia Paris; 10 daughters, Winnifred (Mrs. George Clayton),
Clara (Mrs. William Wright), Shirley (Mrs. Clyde Mosman), Alvina (Mrs.
James Cain), Esther (Mrs. Gerald Johnston), Mrs. Rose Adams, all of Halifax;
Deborah (Mrs. Claude Delorme), Dartmouth; Mary Turner, Marion Jackson,
Barbara, all of Toronto; six sons, George, Charles, Leroy, all of Halifax;
Michael Turner, James, Wendell, all of Toronto; 110 grandchildren; 135
great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by
his first wife, Ethel May Allison; three daughters, Mae, Helen, Grace.

7-9 p.m. today and Sunday. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Cornwallis
Street Baptist Church, Rev. Calvin Symonds officiating. Burial will be

RUTHERFORD, Theodore John (Ted) -
67, Beechville,
Halifax Co., died October 7, 1996, in QE II Health Sciences Centre, VG
Site. Born in Field, B.C., he was a son of the late Melbourne and Lillian
Victoria (Smith) Rutherford. He retired after 25 years of service with
the Royal Canadian Navy as petty officer first class. He served a number
of years as a commissionare with DND. He was a deacon of Beechville Baptist
Church and also was very active in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 25.
He was a member of Beechville Men's Brotherhood. Surviving are daughters,
Savanah (Mrs. Ronald Bos), Holland, Netherlands; Scelonia, Lesley, Beechville;
brother, Gordon, Vancouver, B.C.; sister, Dorothy, British Columbia; a
granddaughter in Holland. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Scelonia
Wright. Cremation has taken place. Memorial sercive 2 p.m. Friday in Beechville
Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. W.P. Clayton officiating. Burial in church cemetery.

TASCO-THOMPSON, Randall Denzel -
infant son of
Randall Thompson and Penny Tasco, Halifax, died April 24, 1994, in the
Grace Maternity Hospital. He is survived by two sisters, Kiara, Randelle;
brother, Lavelle, all at home; maternal grandfather, Keith Tasco; paternal
grandparents, Ivy and Carl Marsman; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He
was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Carol Tasco; paternal grandfather,
