The Keepers Family in America

"Bound by God...For Merryland" *

The first Keepers listed in this genealogy is yet to be connected to our Keepers family.  However, William Keepers is listed as a passenger aboard the Constant Friendship which arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, about 1672.

* A pamphlet describing the ship and voyage is in print and listed under Miscellaneous, Books.

Please contact me, Jerry K. Keepers, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for improvement to this website.  Known errors in the 2004 electronic edition are discussed in the Miscellaneous section.

In the interest of privacy, I have deleted all information for most individuals born after 1930 from the genealogy reports.  However, all names, as we know them, are still listed in the indexes.  The Name Index and the Spouse Index have been updated to reflect new data and rearranged for easier searching.

Please note:  The assignment of group identities was entirely arbitrary on the part of the original researchers.

The Four Thomases Problem:  There appear to be possibly three different Thomas Keepers in New Jersey, two of them born in 1753, during revolutionary war times.  I had thought that there was only one Thomas Keepers in the Revolutionary War, and, using his pension record, incorrectly placed him in the genealogy in the 2004 edition.  This error in the genealogy has been corrected, and he has been placed in his own group, Salem County, New Jersey.  Another Thomas Keepers, wife Tabatha Jones, and descendants have been placed in a new group, Morris County, New Jersey.  Mary (Keepers) Helgevold has researched New Jersey military records.  The data she collected show at least two, and possibly three, Thomases from New Jersey in the Rev. War.  Another Thomas Keepers, born before 1765, appears in the 1810 census in South Carolina, and he and his possible relatives have been placed in a new group, The Carolinas.  The Morris County Thomas died in 1806; the Salem County Thomas died after 1834 and spent his entire life in New Jersey according to his pension file.  Yet another Thomas Keepers appears in the 1820's in Connellsville, PA - family unknown - but perhaps related to the group centered there, Group 10.  If this last Thomas is not the same as the Carolina Thomas, then there are (at least) four men named Thomas Keepers who are, roughly, contemporaries in the late 1700's to early 1800's. The relationships, if any, amongst these families has yet to be determined.
