Jehial Hawley Hard was born August 15,  1803 to a Philo and Currence Hawley Hard in Fairfield, Herkimer, NY.  I didn't write down my source for Philo and Currence's information, so this isn't absolute fact, there is a possibility it's wrong.  I think I found several other family trees with this information that had cited sources, but since I didn't find it, it's just speculation.  Same with Jehial and Matilda's marriage information.  The 1850 census shows J.H. Hard(48, M, farmer), M.H(43, F), A.H.(23, M, laborer), Martha(18,F), Adaline(16, F), Gideon(14, M), Mary L.(12, F), Wade P.(11, M), Ruth(7, F), Bestey Ann(5, F), and Lorett(a) S.(3, F) all living in Tallmadge Twp, Ottawa Co, Mi.  It also states that J. H.'s value of real estate is $1000, and A.H's value of real estate is $350.  And that everyone from J.H to Mary L were born in New York, and Wade to Lorett(a) were born in Michigan.  Additionally this census show that their neighbor was Albert Barker(32, M, Farmer).  I believe this is Matilda's younger brother.  It shows that he was also born in New York, had no one else living with him, and had a real estate value of $1000.  The 1860 census for Tallmadge Twp, Ottawa Co., Mi lists Jehial H. Hard(56, M, farmer), Augusta Daniel(18, F, teacher), Matilda H. Hard(51, F), Ruth Hard(17, F, teacher), Betsey A. Hard(15, F), and Matilda Hard(9, F).  Once again it says that Jehial and Matilda H. were born in New York, and the rest listed as born in Michigan.  This census also shows that Ruth, Betsey and Matilda attended school with in the past year, and that Jehial's real estate value is $2000 and personal estate is $465.  Also it again shows that Albert Barker(40, M, farmer) is still their neighbor.  It also lists Louisa Barker(28, F, wife, born in Ohio) and Matilda A. Barker(1, F) now living with Albert.  Albert's value of real estate is $3500, and personal value is $300.  Jehial's occupation on the census all say he was a farmer, his tombstone however, shows his name as Rev. J.H. Hard.  According to family, he was also a "traveling" minister.  Jehial passed away, September 30, 1867 in Tallmagde Twp, Mi.  He was buried in River Bend Cemetery, Walker, Mi.  The large "family" stone has fallen down, and the small individual ones are barely ledgable.  I took photos and submitted them to the Tombstone Project at US GenWeb (where the links take you).  Another unique thing about Jehial's side of the large tombstone is that it has a large Masonic symbol atop it.
