Daniel Charles Hicks was born June 5, 1830, to William and Catherine Hicks, in New York (most likely in Erie Co.)  Daniel was listed on two seperate censuses in 1850.  The one taken on July 20, 1850, in Concord, Erie Co., NY, shows him at age 19, living with his parents, working as a laborer.  The other census, taken on July 26, 1850, in Ashford, Cattaraugue(?)Co., NY, shows him living with Albert F. Parker(27, Blacksmith), his wife, Jane(19), and son Alvin(10ms).  Daniel is age 19 and is also listed as a laborer.  Albert Parker's neighbor is Stilman(?) Parimanter(?), Delia is living with a Mason Parimanter(?) also in Ashford, NY.  Stilman and Mason are more than likely related, and this is probally how Daniel and Delia met.  Sometime between 1850 and 1860, Daniel marries Delia Brewster.  In either 1859, or 1860, Daniel and Delia's first and only known child is born.  The 1860 census show Daniel (28, farm laborer), Delia(25), and Eugen(11ms) living in Concord, Erie Co., NY.  Living with them are two other children, Maria Whitney (8), and M. Whitney (5, male).  I have not been able to figure out who these two children are.  They may possibally be Delia's from a previous marriage, or niece and nephew, or cousins.  I have had no luck finding possible parents for these two by the last name Whitney.  On Sept. 20,  1861, Daniel Hicks enlists at Springville, NY, as a private for the Union, in the Civil War.  Sept 25,  1861 he enlists with Company A, 100th Infantry Regiment, NY.  Daniel is discharged from duty on Sept 25,  1864, in Petersburg, VA.  Daniel(39) is found again in the 1870 census, living with his parents, William(66) and Catherine Hicks(60), and son Francis E.(10)  They had moved to Dorr, Allegan Co., Mi.  There is no sign of Delia after the 1860 census.  It is possible she died either on the trip to Michigan, or while Daniel was at war.  Family has said that when Francis Eugene was 3 yrs old, he was sent to work on a farm.  Daniel was serving in the war when Francis was 3, therefore, it is possible Delia passed away at this time and Francis was sent to live with someone until Daniel returned.  My other theory is that Delia may have left Daniel for someone else, while he was at war.  Such things aren't uncommon during war.  Then she may have left Francis with his grandparents, William and Catherine Hicks (who were farmers).  The two children that were living with Delia and Daniel in 1860 dissapear too.  If Delia left Daniel, she may have taken them with her, or if she died, they may have gone to other family.  Or they may have been just staying with them for a short time, maybe because of a birth of a new sibling.  I don't know.  Anyways...  The 1880 census shows Daniel(46, sawyer) living in Leighton, Allegan Co., Mi, with his son Francis (20, head of household, Farmer) and Clemma(17, Francis's wife).  Daniel is also listed on the 1890 Veteran's Schedule.  This just says he was enlisted with Co. A, 100th Inf NY, with his enlistment dates and discharge date.  It also lists his post office as being Grand Rapids.  I have not been able to find Danile on any 1900 censuses.  Daniel passes away on February 11, 1908, and is buried in Fairplains Cemetery, Sparta, Mi, where his son Francis lived.

Delia Brewster

Born:  1834-35
Place:  New York
Death:  Unknown
Place:  Unknown
Husband:  Daniel Charles Hicks
Occupation:  House wife
Number of Children: 1

Delia Brewster was born in either 1834 or 1835 to William Brewster and Charity Goodermote Brewster, in New York.  The 1850 census of Ashford, NY shows Delia Brewster(age 16) living with a Mason Parimanter?(37, farmer)  Other people in the household are: Eliza(34), Elder E(10), James(7), John(4), Mary(7), and Christina Goodermote(88).  Christina is Delia's maternal Grandmother.  Delia's father, William passed away in 1840, and her mother, Charity, passed way earlier in the year of 1850.  I'm not sure how this Mason is related to Delia, my guess is that Eliza is her aunt.  And since Christina is there too, I would guess that Eliza would've been her daughter and Charity's sister.  If you look at this census carefully, you will find that most of Mason and Eliza's neighbors are Goodermotes.  There is a William(39)and Barbara(37) Goodermote, and Phillip(55) and Heamet?(53) Goodermote listed with their families.  Like I mentioned above, Delia married Daniel Hicks and had one son, Francis.  Then Delia dissappears after 1860.
