William Hicks & Catherine Pickney Hicks

William Hicks

Born:  abt 1797
Place:  New York
Death:  1875
Place:  Allegan Co., Mi
Burial:  Wayland Cemetery, Wayland, Mi
Wife:  Catherine Pickney
Marriage:  Unknown
Place:  Unknown, probally NY
Occupation:  Farmer, Housed Boarders

According to Daniel Hick's Death Certificate, (William's son), William was born in Rhode Island.  All of the Cenuses, William Hicks states that he was born in New York.  So I conclude that who ever reported on Daniel's death was misinformed.  Because we can not find a death certificate or obituary for William, I am not sure who his parents were.  So far it's narrowed down to being William Hicks and Pheobe Jackson Hicks, or Daniel and Katherine Hicks.  These two men, Daniel and William, are brothers who both had sons named William.  Their father is Benjamin Hicks.  Someone else has traced that line back much farther, but I'm not going to include that information because I haven't done the research, and I have no way to prove who William Hicks's parents are.

Catherine Pickney

I have no information on Catherine Pickney's parents.

The 1850 Census show William(age 47) and Catherine Hicks(35) living in Concord, Erie Co., NY with their children, Daniel (19), George(17), John(10), and Charles(8).  William is said to be working as a Laborer.  In 1860, they are still living in Concord, NY.  The household reads as this: William(57), Catherine(47), Charles(17), and Franklin (8).  William is now working as a Farmer.  Sometime between 1860 and 1870, William and Catherine move to Michigan.  The 1870 census shows them in Dorr, Allegan Co., Mi, listed as William(66) and Catherine(60).  Also living with them is their son, Daniel(39, Sawyer) and grandson, Francis E.(10).  William's Occupation is listed as: Keeps Boarders.  The boarders living with them at this time were(the names are hard to read): Russell Crapsey? (20), Joseph Swerzy? (20), and Theodore Carner? (21).  Sometime after 1870, Catherine passes away, and in 1875, William passes.  There is no record of death from the Department of Community Health for the State of Michigan, nor a death certificate filed in Kent or Allegan Counties.  Both were burried in Wayland, Allegan Co., Mi.  I am on a quest to find Williams Death Certificate or an Obituary.  So, if you have any leads, please contact me!!!
