The letter ELLIS FAMILY OF WEST VIRGINIA

(Lewis TITLOW was a son of Daniel TITLOW (1819 - 1876).
Daniel was a brother of Henrietta (TITLOW) ELLIS.)

Lewis Titlow
(1846 - 1878)

Death of Lewis Titlow,-- The death
of Mr. Lewis Titlow, a young and
highly respected citizen of our commu-
nity, was universally regretted when
the sudden announcement was made on
Tuesday last. Mr. Titlow succeeded
his father in the grain and flour busi-
ness and like him, led a high-toned,
honorable life which justly merited the
esteem and respect of the entire com-
munity; he was but 33 years of age --
The members of the United Company,
0f which he was a member, held him in a
great respect and followed him in a
body to his last resting place at Mt.
Olvet Cemetery. The only brother
of the deceased, is successful commis-
sion merchant in the city of Baltimore,
and was with his brother for several
days during his illness.

(TRIBUT?)E OF RESPECT
----
(At?) a special meeting of the United Fire Company, held at their Hall in Frederick city, on Wednesday evening, December 18, 1878, Hiram Bartgia, the President of the company, announced in a feeling manner, the death of Lewis A. Titlow, one of the Directors of said company, and on motion appointed a committee of three to draft resolutions expressive of the sense of the Company on the loss it has sustained by the death of their late Brother Fireman--said Committee reported the following, which was unanimously adopted vi.:
Whereas, A sorrow as deep as it is painful overwhelming our hearts in the unexpected death of our fellow-member, Lewis S. Titlow; and
Whereas, This great affliction has fallen alike upon his relatives, his fellow- firemen and this entire community, and created a void which cannot be filled: therefore, be it,
Resolved, That in this mournful death of our fellow-member, we experience a be- reavement which can only be assuaged by Him, who in His infinite wisdom called him from his earthly labor to his heavenly reward.
Resolved, That we, as a company, sustain a loss of one of the most fearless and energetic men that ever periled life in dangerous efforts to protect the lives and property of his fellow-citizens.
Resolved, That in further testimony of respect for our deceased fellow-member, we attend his funeral in a body: that a copy of this tribute, attested by the proper officers of the United Company, be transmitted to the family of the deceased;; the same to be entered on the minutes of the Company and also published.
