SEARCHES FAMILY TREES MAILING LISTS MESSAGE BOARDS

Page 1:

The following web pages are scans of the pages from Encil Mizer's 10 page album. I didn't cut the images out of the page but I presented the Album as is. A word of caution; some of the photos contain images of dead bodies at the Gardelegan, Germany during World War II.

Some of the photos were obviously taken by Nazi Army or Air Force members. A number of the photos contains Nazi Army or Air Force soldiers in them. I assume that Encil found the photos during his service with a U.S. Army tank regiment.

Note: I received the following email on March 20, 2004 from Francis, fjmvangorp@home.nl that explains the massacre at Gardelegen. Charlie Keller.

Hi,
While searching the web for possible new information on Gardelegen I found your web page with two pictures of the massacre. I'd think you'd like to know that Gardelegen was not a concentration camp.

Gardelegen is a town in Sachsen-Anhalt (former East-Germany) in which prisoners from several camps ended up after being "evacuated" from camps that were getting to close to the frontline (Hannover-Stöcken, Mittelbau-Dora). The transports couldn't go any further because of attacks on the railroads.

1016 of them were killed in a barn just outside the town. If you want to know more about the atrocity, please go to: www.102ndinfantrydivision.homestead.com and click on the Gardelegen icon.
Thought you'd like to know.

Best regards,
Francis
