The Vietnam Wall Footnote and the National Archives held a press conference this morning in Washington, D.C. to unveil a new interactive online Vietnam War Memorial. This Footnote project features the largest photo of The Wall on the Internet (at full size, the photo on Footnote is about 460 feet wide). The project has been several months in the making and provides an interactive experience for finding names on The Wall as well as service record and casualty report information for each soldier listed. Viewers may also upload photos and create tributes connected to any name on The Wall. Please take a moment to view a short video about how one veteran found a fallen friend on The Wall and add your own tribute today. The video is on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scwMAgCLdks or on the Footnote site at http://www.footnote.com/thewall I went to the Footnote web site and registered. I then looked to see if Jack Hinkle was listed on The Vietnam Memorial Wall. I was able to download an image of his name, which you will see below: ![]() And the details of his service: Title/Collection: Vietnam Veterans Memorial Full Name: Hinkle, Jack Lee Country: South Vietnam Sheet Number: 1 Rank: Private First Class Grade: E2 Specialty: Rifleman (USMC) Hometown: Lyons Home State: OH Race: Caucasian Religion: Not available Marital Status: Single Gender: Not available Date Of Birth: 09 Jan 1946 Tour Start Date: 13 Mar 1968 Casualty Date: 16 Apr 1968 Death Date: 16 Apr 1968 Age: 22 Casualty Type: Hostile, Died Died Of: Other Explosive Device I wanted to share this web site with others who may have family members who died in the service in Viet Nam. TO: CLASS OF 1958 FROM: BILL SERNA DATE: JULY 16, 2007 SUBJECT: CLASS OF 1958 50TH CLASS REUNION In 2008, our graduating “Class of 1958”, will be celebrating it’s 50th year. I have recently spoken to some of our classmates regarding their thoughts on how we should celebrate this occasion. The majority have chosen to take another cruise. I can tell you that if we do choose another cruise, it will be a Caribbean Cruise in either March or April, 2008, and for either 5 or 7 days. This seems to be the best time of year to go weather wise. I have also talked to a few other people who graduated from Lyons, either before or after our Class of 1958, that are interested in joining us. In the first cruise we took for our 45th, we actually had a few from other graduating classes that came along and everyone enjoyed getting together. With a Cruise, you will have plenty of time to visit and catch up. This being the case, we would like to open up the invitation to any Lyons graduate who attended Lyons School or just drove thru, before or after 1958, who has an interest in joining our class on a cruise. Please remember that a Passport will be need to take this cruise. Before I go ahead and book another cruise and begin to reserve rooms, I would like to get a better feel for how many are interested in taking this cruise. Please let me know your thoughts and interest by phone (419) 923-3452, or email jmcserna@hotmail.com as soon as possible. I will need to proceed on this rather quickly to get it booked. More details of the cruise, description and how much it will cost etc. will soon follow. Thanks. ![]() Click for Update July 19, 2007, Details of Cruise, Dates, Prices |
