BASICH, Richard June 26, 1990 Became teacher, principal Richard Basich, a football and baseball standout at the University of Toledo in the early 1950s who became a well-known high school educator, died yesterday in St Luke’s Hospital. He was 56. He loved kids, said his wife, Margaret. “He loved all the students”. He was fun-loving and sincere. Everybody he met, he befriended. Mr Basich, of Waterville, (OH) first gained public acclaim in 1951 when he starred on what was called the best football team in the history of Delta, OH. High School. He scored 209 points in nine games and won all-state honors. ![]() After earning a Bachelors degree and Master’s Degree from UT, Mr Basich taught at Central Catholic High School and at Lyons, O High School before being named principal at Lyons. In 1964, he returned to Delta High School as principal, a post he held 21 years. After leaving Delta, he was principal at Fostoria High School for four years, then worked with his son, Rick, a telemarketing company dealing in computer connecting equipment. He was a past member of the board of YMCA and for the board of Fostoria City Hospital. Surviving is his wife Margaret; sons Rick, Mike and Tim Basich, and daughter Cheryl Basich; sisters Mrs Kathryn Rodgers of Palm Springs, CA ; Mrs Patricia Stareck pf Apple Valley, CA; brothers Joseph pf Los Almitos, CA; Thomas of Toledo, Robert of Brooksville, FL, and John Basich of Lake St Louis, MO; several nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call at the Maison- Dardenine Funeral Home, Maumee after 7pm Tuesday and 1-9 Wednesday. Services will be held Thursday at 9:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Funecal Mass at St Josepj’s Cemetery. A Wake Service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
