DERBY, Wayne L. October 25, 2005 Wayne L. Derby, age 83, of Ingall Hwy., Morenci, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at his home. He was born January 28, 1922, in Fulton County, Ohio, to Earl and Marie (Zug) Derby. He married Doris Hawkins on July 13, 1940, in Wauseon, Ohio, and she survives. Wayne retired from District Council of Carpenters and United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local Union #1138 in Toledo, Ohio, with over 35 years of service. He was a very strong and devoted union leader and past vice president of the Local #1138, a U.S. WWII Marine Corps Veteran and member of V.F.W. Post 7574 in Lyons, Ohio. He enjoyed raising Hereford cattle after his retirement and he will be sadly missed by all his family. Surviving Wayne besides his wife, Doris, of Morenci; is one daughter, Judy (Ned) Sullins of Fremont, Indiana; one son, James Derby of Fayette, Ohio; one sister, Myrtle (Bob) Downing of Lyons; one brother, Gerald (Sondra) Derby of Sand Creek, Michigan; one son-in-law, James Sallows of Morenci, Michigan; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Linda Sallows and Sallie Perot; two sisters, Mary Bachelder and Helen Schantz; three brothers, Glen, Henry and Richard Derby and one granddaughter, Christine Sullins. Funeral services for Wayne L. Derby will be Friday, October 28, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette, Ohio, with Pastor James Mann officiating. Military interment will follow at Lyons Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Lenawee County.
