REUNION – CLASS OF 1963

Saturday, September 6th, 2003, the classmates gathered in the parking lot of the school to begin a 40th reunion celebration. A tour of the old school was a walk down memory lane. Stories were being told and memories re-lived as we walked the halls. Credit goes to the janitorial staff as we were pleasantly surprised at the condition of the buildings. Everything looked good with the exception of the upper level of the old building which is no longer in use. The one shocking thing was how all the rooms and especially the halls had shrunk in size. It was all so much bigger when we arrived for the first day of school in the First Grade. And those halls seemed so long when you were running for class in High School. Amazing how the years make everything so much smaller. Thanks to Wilford Salsberry and Don Terry for arranging our visit.

The next stop was the Historical Society at the Old Town Depot. Louise Smith and Bob Donahue arranged a private opening for the class to view the artifacts and to see all the work that has gone into restoring and adding to the Depot. We especially enjoyed the school pictures and all the Year Books on display. Wilford Salsberry donated a 1963 Lyons High School Band Base Drum that was used in the Marching Band. It has the signatures of the entire class. Thanks Wilford for putting us in the Museum.

Last stop was the Firehall Community Room where tables of memorabilia and Dinner awaited the guests. Laughter and stories of the past were the main theme of the night. Who knew that Wilford Salsberry saved everything from High School including every issue of the Lyons Roar Newspaper. He entertained us by reading highlights from the paper about each classmate. Then those in attendance gave an update on their lives since Graduation.

Thanks need to go to the classmate who worked to make this event a reality: Marge Barden Bressler is the one who got the ball rolling. The committee that formed, divided the responsibilities after everyone worked to find the addresses of all the classmates.
Decorations: Joyce Brown Hanna, Karen Nicely Schuller, Linda Baker Gamber.
Invitations and Nametags: Judy Gage Salsberry
Memory Books and Write-ups: Kathy Rowland Damiano
      Entertainment: Wilford Salsberry, Roger Clausen
      Catering: Marge Barden Bressler

Now that we have located everyone we are hoping to have a yearly picnic at one of our homes in the area. Donations were made to the Firehall and the Historical Society fom the Class of 63.
