This family is listed in the 1870 Delaware county, Indiana Census Index, except for Margaret (i assume she is dead by 1870),  and Sarah, who is living in the John Losh household in 1870. I believe Margaret Losh Burgess was the sister of John Losh and they were taking care of Sarah after the death of Margaret. Sarah appears to be the youngest of the Burgess children.  Ulysses C. appears to probably be
from Joseph's second marriage to Louisa, considering his age.

 JOHN LOSH (deceased) was born in Northumberland county, PA., June 18, 1819, the son of John and Susannah Losh, parents both natives of the same state. John Losh was reared a farmer and came to Delaware county in 1855, and purchased the farm still in possession of the family, upon which he resided until his death. He was married November 5, 1840, to Mary Tompson,daughter of Robert and Matilda (Hutchinson) Tompson, and became the father of the following children: Matilda, wife of James Watson; Robert T., died June 21, 1849; Martha, wife of Oliver Carmichael; Wilson, died June 24, 1865; John F., died June 21, 1885; infant, deceased, and Charles M. Losh, a resident of the city of Muncie. Mr. Losh was always a hard working man,was upright and honorable in his dealings, won universal respect and confidence, and was valued as a substantial and public spirited citizen,and loved as a friend and neighbor. He departed this life at Eaton Rapids,Mich., on the 17th day of July, 1880.

Bio on Mary Thompson

 Mrs. Losh was subsequently united in marriage to Aaron Lackey, son of Joseph and Addie Lackey. Mr. Lackey was born in Butler county, Ohio, in 1821, and has always followed the farmers occupation. He has been a resident for some years of Monroe township, where he is universally respected, and as a citizen occupies a conspicuous place in the estimation of his friends and neighbors. Mrs. Lackey is a highly esteemed lady in the community in which she resides, and her life has been fraught with kind words and good deeds. She has indeed been a helpmate, and in the later years of her life many are the friends that rise up and call her blessed.

Mrs. Lackey has lived in Monroe township continuously since 1841. She and her former husband settled in the southwest part of this township, where they cleared a farm from the green.     Rev. Oliver Carmichael - born in Monroe township in1841 to a Patrick and Louisa (Gibson) Carmichael.  In 1864 he married Martha Losh and they had five children: Otto, Milton,Wilson, Jesse and Mary.

     Rev. Valentine G. Carmichael - Born July 29, 1845 in Monroe township, son of Patrick Carmichael (who was born in Ohio.  Patrick's father was Andrew Carmichael of Irish descent.  He married Louisa Gibson and they bore 15 children: Oliver, Milton, Andrew, Valentine G, Mary A., Charles, Catherine, William, John, Ephraim F.,  George W.  Fermin V., Margaret and Coloston.  This says nothing about his death so he must have still been alive at the time the book was published.

Notes for Suzie Maude McCormick:
 born to Lafayette & Emma LEONARD MCCORMICK in Muncie,Indiana on March 15,1883. She was the only surviving daughter, in a family of five sons. Her childhood did not last long,she went to work when she was twelve years old,to help support her family at McNaughtons, the fore-runner of Ball Stores,she was called a cash girl. Her first paycheck consisted of three shiny pennies,a nickel and a dime.

 I remember her talking of pumping water, in the winter from a pump in the yard, and her hands freezing to the pump handle. She was very loyal to her family, and her friends consisted of her cousins, even in later life,her family was the most important thing in her life. Suzie loved to go to movies, and I can remember many times,her going through her pockets to find the little bit of change,for the bus and movies, to get us to town and back,of course we also cashed pop bottles in, for this trek to town.

She was very funny and loved to argue(with me mostly),one day I came home from school for lunch and she was entertaining me,by singing "pee i po,pee i pie" and was standing by our Coolerator, the door was open and her hand caught it,and her poor  Mccormick nose got caught in it,it was purple and blue,all over for weeks. We were walking down the alley one day in the winter,and she took off running, and I took off, running after her, delighted I thought she was playing."Grandma, where are you going?" I asked her,well she had slipped on a piece of ice, and was running to keep her balance, I loved it.

 The first phone we had was at Elgin St. and she was so proud,she called the Yellow cab, and told
 them to send a crab to1508 Elgin St.and laughed like a kid,at her slip of the tongue.
